Greetings from Tok, use my rimfires for the same game, minus the seals. Use to work at Wainright, and Barrow, and always enjoyed hearing about you guys taking large seals, and caribou with rimfires (.22 Lr, .17 HMR, and .22 Mag)—you have to really know how to hunt, and get in close, to make them effective!

I forgot to mention that I also have the 186 series Mini-14, the tokarev 7.62x25, and the lady uses the Remington.270 and has a moose every year, not so much me, I do the driving and hard work when it comes to moose. Finally had the itch to Shoot a moose last season after 11 years.

 

I love Alaska very pretty place I was fortunate enough to go moose hunting in 2007 and got a 66”inch bull also got mock charged by a grizzly ! 😳

 

Nice! And scary! Grizzly are SCARY HUGE. I’ve only ever been charged by a cow and I was only 6-7, yelled and screamed for my old man, who was directly in line with me and the moose not too far behind me, yelled at me to jump down and took a shot with his 300, stopped that cow in its tracks. whew
Best life lessons are after some life and dead situations lol

I spent a few days in Alaska in 1983. Loved it.

 

When I lived in AK my work schedule limited spare time so I spent it towards small game hunting and fishing. No regrets.

 

My brother in law originally from DR had a 2 week on and 2 week off schedule, I taught him to snare for rabbits in his back yard in Wasilla, took 2 days for us to get 2 of them. He was happy, had a good dinner

 

Good evening, I’m a new member. My name on here is a nickname I got from my uppa(grandfather) half kassaq (Caucasian) and half Eskimo(Alaska central Yup’ik) = Kaskimo. I have a Marlin model 60 with a synthetic Dragonov stock another Marlin model 60 with the original stock, a Savage Rascal for my son, a Ruger 10/22, and a Winchester Wildcat for the lady. All used for small game; ptarmigan, snowshoe hares, and up to Seals in early spring (ice break up) and fall time when the ice starts forming.
