Howdy folks, and welcome to TWH!

This edition brings us one week closer to spring!!! :bthumb:

Well, we still have that pesky February to get through, but still... light at the end of the tunnel and all that!

Here's to another amazing week of pointless drivel!

Y'all rock! :bthumb:

Maybe with a bit of Swing thrown in for the older crowd!

Still four months of Winter yet to come with the truly cold stuff yet to come. 3° and my radiator blockage experiment is paying off with the Prius. I cut sections of foam pipe insulation and popped them into the grill. 50% coverage of openings top and bottom brought me from 37mpg at these temps to 51mpg summer temps. A modern lean burn engine runs at peak efficiency hot.

Plus most of March but who's counting. Well, me for one. Winter was so late getting here(to my little part of the country that is) that I'm afraid spring will be late this year. That's what the old folks used to say, the later winter starts the later spring gets here. But who needs old folks sayings anyway?

In?

Downer, Al? I’m loving it, no Skeeters.

Missed celebrating moms 91st birthday with her Friday. Can go to the balmy south in a couple weeks to celebrate a late one and cut her some firewood. Brother has a big dead Elm that grew right next to Bluebird the Orchard bus that he’s scared to cut. I’ve fell enough big trees to have the experience and know how to get it done.
They have just a dusting of snow at the farm but cold temps and burning through the wood this winter. Green wood isn’t cutting it.

Cold I came down with at Squirrel camp Friday a week ago has become a dozzy, hacking up lots of phlegm, stopped up, hardly slept last night, two days ago I thought I was about over it. I'll be calling the Pulmonologist in the AM. :(

Thinking about the ER today to get checked out for pneumonia?
Up graded the OS on my Mac to Monterey, last night while watching the Packers loose.Still trying to figure out some (most ) things.
.
I'd appreciate an update how it flies for you. I'm always leery of upgrades.

Grub run was $$ and cold. Shoveled after bringing 8 bags from the truck to the porch 1 at a time to get the snot farm really rolling. I got the hang of blowing my nose now w/o getting it in the stashe. :)

Back in from snow blowing. Made a path for ups/fedex/propane. Chemical hand warmers in gloves :t

Going to go shopping to get out of the house after a nice warm shower.

I think I have three of the chromecast units. I keep forgetting that they are there on various tv's.

Good idea checking with the doc.

14°A Slight breeze.

Turned the heater on in the shop first thing this morning BB ( before bacon ). The shop is 19'x23' with a 10' lid, and ambushes heat from the run in the kitchen, but only stays at about 50* this time of year. Running the space heater gets it in the high 50's when times are good.

Brass is waiting,54 days till Spring, gotta get to it.

Yesterday's skeeting proved as cold as anticipated, but the sun was out, so there was that and the wind wasn't doing more that gentle breezy from time to time. Aside from the cold, it was about ideal. When I'd pre-registered there were only a dozen signed up to shoot, but there were 41 entrants that made it and shot, so a good turnout for a one-day shoot. There were 26 shooting in my class for the first event and 25 for the second w/the majority being yutes on the way up while I had earned my being there by shooting my way down due to eye dominance difficulties that I've been wrestling with for a very long time. Shot the 1st box okay in the first event, second one was even better, no straights, but staying over 80%. Third box the X-fire demon made its appearance and remained for the rest of the day. It happens. Ended up one target shy of my goal of 80% or better in the 1st event. And well shy of that in the second due to the wheels coming off on the last box. Class wise, I was mid pack in first event and a bit lower than that in the second, but still well off the bottom. Winner in my class scored in the mid 90% range in first event and low 90% range in the second. I won 'Veteran' in both events and HOA in that concurrent category. There are points awarded and it's a generally a honors only official form of recognition in registered skeet shooting. The ten bucks optional purse money that I'd put in for 'HOA in class' went to others yesterday who did a much better job than I. I'd 'balked' a total of 9 times(!) over the eight boxes, due to not having the correct sight picture and my addled brain knowing it. Other misses I had zero clue that I was 'wrong-eying' the target until after the shot was taken. Not a new problem for me, it just depends on the day, BP, blood sugar levels, how tired I am and a myriad of other things that had just as soon take the moon phase, taro and whot I'd eaten last time I was in Montevideo into account as well. 'Twas a good day and I enjoyed it, tho I could have, should have and would have shot better... had I been able to. It just wasn't in the cards.
--

Bride made some killer good gumbo that we began eating Friday night and finished yesterday watching the football games. She used some 'seafood'/fish stock rather than water for the base and it made a recognizable difference in the finished product; one we each thot was a nice improvement to its taste. The filé we used as a condiment said it was picked & ground in August during a full moon. There has to be some Creole reason for that, but it eludes my finding it. Don or Mike may know of such things. I don't, but guess the sassafras leaves must be at their voodoo apex... or sumpin'.
--

My BP meds have gone up over 25% since the last refill. Latest pump prices for corn-swill are now up to $3.25/gallon locally at a lot of places and finding it at an even $3 is now a very good deal. And then I read of Russia putting 140 ships into play for some 'exercises' they are intended to participate in and wonder how much fuel is being consumed for that to take place vs. the number of folks that might be kept warm in cold places w/that same fuel, not that it changes anything. Kroger's had their 20# bags of black oil sunflower seed knocked back to $13, so I snagged one to add to my present mix of bird seed on hand, since I'd stopped to pick up an RX and some more shrimp for the gumbo on my way home after shooting. Fresh caught shrimp have gone up in price too.

I had trouble staying awake long enough to see the end of the Packer's game... and season as it turned out, last night. Quite the upset and plenty cold on the field. Both of yesterday's games were good ones, I thot. Hope that it remains that way thru the end of this season. A good football game can be a good two~three hour diversion. Will be interesting to see how today's games go.

The sun is out again today, and the weasels are saying it will reach 62 this afternoon. Its 38 now, RH 60%, wind Vrbl 3. Bride is fixin' us some breakfast, but I have not bothered to ask whot, knowing it will be fine. Slow to get moving this morning. I May go and shoot some helice this afternoon. 30% chance of rain tomorrow. Have an appt. w/my car guy at 8 A to install the new front axles on the Odyssey. Should be done in a coupla hours. Had them in hand withing 24 hours of ordering. :) :bthumb: Delivery is fine; trick is in ordering product on hand.

Just got summoned to breakfast. Y'all have a good day!

I predict an early spring...

The ducks are doing it,
the eagles are doing it,
the hummingbirds are doing it,
a daffy-dill was seen in our 'hood.

I'll be glad when it gets here :) :t :bthumb:

I'm in. :)

Picked up a flag bracket, pole, screws, and two hefty magnets yesterday to make a mount for my Georgia Bulldogs National Championship flag that I will be putting up at work. It will hang above the book cutting machine in the area where I work the most. I claim that area as mine since I don't have an office. I have several Georgia items there already.

I had to modify the bracket to get the correct angle for the steel beam I will be putting it on. The pole will go straight out. I need to stain the wood to match the pole. The Georgia Bulldogs flag is showing a shipping date around mid February. Thankfully my Alabama coworkers, including my boss, do not object to my decor. :D

Heading out to get lunch and groceries now. Y'all have a great day!!!

Thanks Brent and Al, ER's and Urgent Cares around here are swamped, I usually can get in to see the Pulmonologist the day, get a steroid shot in the Honey, and script for oral steroids and antibiotics.

Ouch. Yeah, get the medics on that. I'm curious as to the results of the covid test. Sounds different to the usual symptoms but you never know.
Pretty sure they'll do the PCR test there, up until yesterday no fever just stopped up and some clear phlegm, changed over night.

https://medicalxpress.com/news/2022-01-omicron-sub-variant-virus.html

Scientists are keeping a close watch on a recently-discovered sub-variant of the Omicron version of the COVID-19 virus to determine how its emergence could effect future pandemic spread.

The initial Omicron variant has become the dominant virus strain in recent months but British health authorities have notably identified hundreds of cases of the latest version, dubbed BA.2, while international data suggest it could spread relatively quickly.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) identified more than 400 cases in Britain in the first ten days of this month and has indicated the latest variant has been detected in some 40 other countries, accounting for a majority of most recent cases in some nations including India, Denmark and Sweden.

In! Sorry I'm late, but I had some urgent business to attend to at the range, and Rhody wasn't up before I left....

Range was good, although my concentration was cruddy. Some good shooting, but then I'd get over-confidentificated and the next couple of rounds would punish me.

Must remember to pay attention more, or have weaker coffee on range mornings. :D

First

The range was cold, ~22F. That's like 'really cold' for some people down here.

I was fine. The guns didn't want to work.

Well, . . . The WWSD AR worked great. My handloads eject three o'clock. Reliable, and accurate. :bthumb: I really like this powder and this load. :t

The little Walther worked great. No hitches to speak of.

The Browning Challenger II is really starting to be a problem child.
It began with magazine related issues. That was solved and it had week extraction.

This is after initial problems with carbon in the chamber.

I want to like this gun, but it's making it challenging.

My Mk IV didn't want to run right either.

So the real winner AR.

Came home with extra sausage and ham, so cooked it up with some onion and other random containers from the fridge.
Mixed in a can of Creole White Beans and boiled a bag of rice. (Water here boils at 212F.)
The jalapeno sausage gives it bite. It eats good with a tall glass of milk.
