Savage Anschutz Mark 10A asking price?

Hey All,

Was at the store, about to purchase my first 22.. a Savage Mk-2 FV.. when I got a text from a friend saying he's selling a Savage Anschutz Mark 10A that he picked up an estate sale.

I decided to leave the Mk-2 on hold, and went to go check out the Savage Anschutz Mark 10A.

It's in pretty top notch condition, no nicks or scuffs on the wood, comes with the original sights and such. I'm a beginner to the world of firearms and don't know much about the Savage Anschutz Mark 10A, so was wondering if anybody here had some input.

My main goal with my first .22 is to use it as a budget trainer of sorts. I have a Remington 700p that I rarely take out due to the cost of 308. So I've decided to pick up a bolt action .22lr to practice with.

Should I go with the Savage Anschutz Mark 10A over the Savage Mk-2 FV? If so, what would be a good price asking price?

The Savage Mk-2 FV is at a local shop for $209.

Thank you in advance for anybody who takes the time to leave some advice!

Or you can buy a Savage MK II FVT from Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) for $247 and will out shoot the others. I beat all the Anschutz (1710-yes) with a MKI FVT. They have two action screws, 21" barrel x 3/4" with accu-trigger. They shoot!
Wow that's an amazing price.. I'm not familiar with CMP purchases. Would you be able to explain how that works?

It seems like this CMP direction may not for me.

Does anybody else have thoughts on my original dilemma?

What would be a good asking price for the Mk 10A? If it is indeed $400, then how it compares with other .22s in that price range such as the Savage MK II TR or a CZ 455?

Sorry for all the questions guys :(, this is my first 22 and I just want to make sure I'm making the best choice.

Thank you all again.

I'm just going to let you know that you can join the "Revolutionary War Veterans Association", the parent organization for the "Appleseed Project" ( there is a separate sub forum here on RFC), to qualify for CMP purchases. If you haven't been to an Appleseed, you should think about it. Great opportunity for improving your shooting skills at a low price.

Now for your initial question. The trigger and stock on the 10A is entry level, the rest of the rifle, the important parts, are pretty high quality stuff.
The MK2 has a great trigger and stock, and the rest of the rifle is of medium quality.
Accuracy wise it is a toss up.

To muddy the waters a bit. Many of the older Mossbergs will cost about what the MK2 does, but the accuracy is in my opinion superior. They hand lapped the barrels at least into the 1980s and many are excellently accurate well above their cost point. If you look around and are patient they can be had quite cheaply sometimes as well.

Thanks for the information! I've never heard of "appleseeds" before, but it sounds fantastic. Looks like I may be joining and going out to these events. Quality rifle training for that kind of price is too good to pass up!

As far as qualifying for the CMP purchase, the only rifle I would be interested from CMP would be the "Savage Mark II FVT", and everything I'm reading on their website indicates that they (the savages in particular) are only sold to organizations for them to use in training programs.

I'll try contacting the Revolutionary War Veterans Association to get clarification.

Anyhow, thank you again for the info on this association and appleseeds... One way or the other I'm sure I'll be attending an event soon.

If you are leaning toward the Savage Anschutz 10A, do a close inspection of the way the barreled action fits the stock. I owned one and it the fit was extremely poor with the barreled action sitting crooked in the stock to the point that the stock fore end put a lot of pressure on one side of the barrel. I've seen at least one more like that. Mine shot poorly, and the trigger was not much to talk about. I didn't own it for long. But the one you are looking at may be a good deal.

Don't know much about the Mark II FVT, but if they will outshoot the Anschutz 1710 series of rifles......I definitely want one.......

Hey all,

Thanks again for all the info and advice, I've decided to pass on the Mk10A and will be going with the Savage Mk2. Will be contacting CMP to see if I can indeed purchase a MK2 FVT for myself, otherwise I'll be going with the MK2 FV for $180 from my local shop.

Thanks again!
