Reasonable price on Mossberg 44US(a)?

Hello guys. Need a quick opinion on something. I have the chance to buy from a guy I know a Mossberg 44US(a) rifle that looks to be pretty minty. Aside from a few scratches where the front side hood slides off and on, and a bit of very minor wear on the rear sight from manipulation only, the rest of the rifle I'd easily call 98-99% The rear sight is an S-100 and the front sight is an S-101 that is complete, minus the front sight hood is missing. The magazine is there. I was told he got it from an estate sale, and I just cant imagine it was shot a ton based on the condition I can see in the photos. I know the guy, so anything he tells me about the rifle can be trusted but I'm not sure he even shot it since he's bought it. But assuming everything I've described is accurate, would 300 be a decent price for this? It's not negotiable, as that's what he paid and I think he's just looking for the same amount back. What say you guys? I have not seen the rifle in person yet, but from the decent pictures I've seen my grading should spot on. Should I consider this model at this price? Thanks!

Even though we last spoke about the rifle in January, and he said it wasn't going anywhere, the reason I haven't been frantic about getting it immediately, is because I had already purchased about a year prior in December 2023 a beautiful Mossberg 144LSB in about 98% condition for...are you ready for this.......$185.00 In the time my friend had possession of the rifle he also purchased a set of the Lyman front globe inserts and an additional aftermarket 10 rnd mag which he kindly passed to me at no extra charge. I only recently finally shot the gun at the range for some informal testing using CCI standard velocity 22l.r. and I was blown away at the tight groups this rifle produced. I was only testing at 25 yards, but with my 54 y.o. eyes and regular off the shelf ammo, I was creating some cloverleafs with a few rounds not far from it. I had even been chatting with a guy at the range who had one of those tricked out 2,000 dollar .22 scoped match rifles (by his account) and he came and looked at the group size and said, "wow. that's not much different than what my rifle is shooting and it's a 2,000 dollar rifle." I'm not sure if I'll shoot this a ton, as I don't shoot any matches and he informed me (he shoots matches) that the types of silhouette matches that these guns were used in have long since passed into extinction.......at least at our particular range. But in any event, it was really great to shoot this vintage rifle and I had always wanted a target 22 of this style as I was growing up. I was glad to pic this one up for such a reasonable price. One thing I have always enjoyed doing, is shooting open sights. as long as I can still see, I enjoy shooting with open sights, and use the scopes when needed for hunting.

Hello all. To update this thread, I was finally able to meet with seller and pick up this rifle over the weekend. The only thing it needs is a hood to go over the front sight and the red and green inserts which have already been ordered cheap. I will try and post pictures of the rifle when I get a chance. It's in great shape and the one's I've seen online in similar condition seem to go for about 150 or more above what I paid. If it shoots fine, it seems like I did well.
