I always thought that the std stock on H001 looked and felt too long and slightly out of proportion to the rest of the carbine. When I switched it to a youth size it felt more natural and it looked better.

Now I know why.

Yesterday I took delivery of my new 357 Rossi carbine and noticed that it looked and felt like my customized Henry and this morning I got out all three of my leverguns and look what I found out.

Yes, the Henry's youth size stock is the same size as the carbine stock on a Win 92, while the std Henry stock is 1" longer which makes it the same as my rifle length stock on my 357 Rossi rifle.

Interesting.

I sent the following message to Mr. Imperato today along with my picture above.

"Mr. Imperato,

I'm the proud owner of one of your H001s. I've loved the rifle since I got it and even after 8,000 rounds, it works like a charm. One thing I've felt is that the buttstock seemed to be out of scale for the rest of the rifle; it seemed a bit long. I'm 5" 9" with long arms but felt when shouldering my little Henry that I needed to stretch my neck a bit for an optimal hold and sight picture.

I also have a 357mag Winchester '92 clone, a Rossi '92 24" barreled rifle. I noted that my Henry carbine's buttstock was the same length as my Rossi rifle buttstock. The Rossi's longer buttstock fits perfectly as it's got a longer barrel to balance but as I said, the Henry's buttstock felt a bit long to me.

Recently, I got another 357mag Rossi '92, however, this one is a traditional 20" carbine. One of the first things I noticed is that my Rossi carbine's buttstock was about 1" shorter than my Rossi rifle and std Henry H001's buttstock. The carbine fits me very well and seems very nicely balanced with the shorter buttstock.

That confirmed my previous thoughts that the Henry buttstock was a bit too long, so I got myself a Henry youth length buttstock from an H001Y, and swapped it out with my std buttstock. The change was quite surprising as I found that my little Henry carbine is now better balanced, shoulders quickly, and the buttstock now looks to be more in scale with the rest of the carbine. Also, I find that I now don't 'stretch my neck' to aim it and all in all it's a perfect fit.

To visually demonstrate my point that the buttstock should be shorter, here is a picture of my three lever guns, my 24" Rossi rifle on top, then my 20" Rossi carbine in the middle, and my Henry on the bottom. As you can clearly see, the Henry with the youth length buttstock installed is now the same length as the std Win '92 sized carbine.

I recommend that you consider changing the buttstock length on the std H001 to the short buttstock currently found on the H001Y, youth model. I would further recommend that you continue to offer the H001T with the std length buttstock because it has a longer, heavier barrel and looks and balances fine with the longer buttstock.

In addition, as you already make the youth length buttstock, the transition costs for the H001 should be zero or possibly slightly less do to fact that the smaller buttstock contains less wood.

Something for your consideration,

Steve XXXX"

I'll share his comments with the group.
