Winchester T22 Ammunition-very bad

Ok, so I have a case of this stuff and the results are horrible in everything I have shot it in. That would be 54.18,1712, T-bolt, and pistols.

Has anyone tried this stuff and had good results in anything?

I shot T22s in a 40X at Penn State years ago and it shot well. I see guys shooting it in a 10 Meter-any rifle- league that I shoot in the winter. For silhouette I use Wolf or RWS. T22s are pretty loud compared to wolf etc. With the heat some rounds may be pushing supersonic.

Terry,

This case is fairly new so maybe it has gone down in quality, I couldn't imagine competing with it. At first I thought it was me, the best I could get was a .62"
group at 50y., drop in Federal Match and group drops to .34".
I don't know what to do with the stuff, it is too frustrating to shoot, its inconsistency is the only thing consistent.

T22 is target, not match ammo. It should be more consistent (not necessarily more accurate) than standard ammo, but not as good as match. I used it in competition at 50 feet and it was okay at that short range. If you're getting a .62 group at 50 yards it sounds like that's about what you should expect from target ammo, as opposed to your .34 groups with match ammo.

With ammo you definitely get what you pay for. Sure, you may get a lot that shoots outstandingly in your rifle but the next lot may not group worth a darn. If you ever do find that magic lot of cheap ammo that shoots great buy as much of that lot as you can possibly afford and count your blessings.

5 years ago I bought some T22 to shoot in my model 41 target pistol as CCI SV was not availible. The cases were splitting on every third round or so, and some reports sounded louder than others. After a few magazines I stopped shooting it and called Winchester. They said send it back and they would pay the shipping from UPS. I also pulled bullets off a few rounds and looked at the powder inside, a couple rounds had about 1.5X the powder in them of the others. UPS picked up the two bricks I had, and about 6 weeks later I recieved a letter from Winchester with two $25 coupons. The letter claimed there was nothing wrong with the ammo, so I called them and they tried to tell me something was wrong with my S&W 41, funny it fired 500 rounds of Aguilla super extra after that with no problems.

So I am not a fan of any Winchester rimfire ammo, and won't buy any more.

I would bet a pretty penny that nobody even looked at your ammo. A complaint about 2/3" grouping is probably not going to get the same attention as having a barrel bulge or multiple squibs in a box - those are lawsuits waiting to happen whereas you're just ticked off at buying crap.

Sadly, even if they did examine the rounds, their statement may be accurate (more so than the rounds :bthumb:) because the rounds may be within specification and still shoot like garbage.

You think Winchester is bad, try some Remington. I don't think American rimfire ammo manufacturers make any good ammo. They are manufacturing for the masses, non target and competition shooters. I personally use Aguila Match Rifle Ammo for my T Bolt and it shoots just as good as Wolf, only $15 a brick cheaper.
