Was out shopping the other day and came upon a little single shot 22. Good shooting little 1902 model. Stock is in very good shape, buttplate very nice, screws have the design visible yet on them, metal is patina and a grey but no pitting. The bore is what suprised me the most. Its in very nice shape, no pitting and it still shines after a good cleaning. I know the black powder back in these days early on killed alot of the bores with no cleaning.

My dad was born in 1918 and I was over to his house to show him it and he told me about how he was in the winchester junior rifle corp and had to do some looking around but he has his medal and diploma certificate yet stashed away in years of treasures. Little rifle sure did bring back memories and some good stories. And I let him shoot it while there too. He says its funny he learned to shoot with one of these when he was a kid back in the 1920s and here he is now in 2012 shooting it all over again. Was a great moment.

Like your Dad, mine also learned to shoot with a Winchester 1902 that belonged to his grandfather. (Dad's been gone 20 years now.) But I remember a family trip to one of Dad's uncles in South Dakota about 40 years ago and Dad mentioned shooting that old rifle. His Uncle went to the closet and brought out that same Winchester 1902, then gave it to Dad! When I was four years old, I learned to shoot with that rifles's twin, a Winchester Model 58, which was just a less expensive version of the 1902. Seeing your 1902 brings back a flood of memories for lots of us, I'm sure. Nice find! BRP

Very cool picture and memories there for sure. I've got my youth 22 I learned with. It was a J stevens challenge model. Same size as the winchester 1902. This winchester I just picked up will be the one my niece and nephew will learn to shoot with as so many kids have before them.

Its not pink or blue and plastic. Its patina and wood and years of use and will bring many more to them and hopefully their children to come. Thank you everyone for keeping memories and the sport of shooting alive.
