Winchester 52 information

I have a Winchester 52 that serial number dates to 1933. However the stock and sights appear to be later. The gun was originally purchased from Winchester in the 30's or 40's and handed down. We are trying to determine what its worth with the gun in this configuration. The rifle is fitted with a factory Marksman stock which features deluxe checkering which appears to be factory special order work. The checkering is expertly executed and the stock is finished in a slightly glossy finish. It is a 28" heavy barrel crowned. It has a Lyman 524 hi lo rear sight ans a Redfield Olympic front sights with inserts. The gun is in 98% condition and has been fired very little in its lifetime. Bluing and wood are in very excellent condition. I cannot seem to find any information in this configuration. The serial # is 26594. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The s/n on your rifle far pre dates the Marksman stock, as well as factory drilled receiver sight holes on LH side for mounting receiver sight. I am always hesitant about any supposedly factory checkered 52. I have seen some outstanding jobs done on these rifles and believe about 99.9% to be custom. One other consideration is that an early rifle such as yours would have been manufactured with only 1 receiver/stock attaching screw, which was located at front of receiver. A Marksman stock rifle uses 2 screws with the additional rear screw traveling through the tang at rear of receiver. Check and see if your rifle has the rear screw as well. I bet it does, and was most likely drilled after the fact.
Unfortunately, there is no way to prove one way or the other if factory work, unless you have some type of provenance from factory.
