FLSailor,

Looks like your question has been posted in the wrong section of the forum.

This is the High Standard area of RFC!
If the OP is talking about a JC Higgins rifle, he's in the correct place, because those were made by High Standard for Sears. Some of those rifles had a non-standard width dovetail and some people have had some success with using some vertical split rings to mount modern scopes on those rifles.

You

want the first link you posted to Amazon - the lower vertical rings. I have these on my Higgins Model 30. The second set is for using the iron sights under the scope. These rings place the scope way too high and, in my opinion, look hideous.

I just resurrected an old post on model 31 ,in which I stated I used a smal shim of soft copper sheet, mine came from a roll of roofing copper,a small piece under each ring, wide as the ring is front to rear relation to the rifle and long enough to wrap around the edge of the dove tail by a bit then clamp it with the rings and snug it down, aluminum of a similar gauge might avoid any electrolytic metal difference problems, but I have never had any problems between the copper and the aluminum of the receiver,if you did use aluminum sheet you would not have to worry.this is not usually an issue with guns because they kept dry clean and oiled, but something to consider.
