Is RWS 22 LR ammo still being imported?

Who’s the U.S. importer? I know that Anschutz carries RWS 22 ammo as do a few others but some time back I got an in-stock notification from MidwayUSA that said RWS 22 LR ammo is discontinued. I know that could mean they've just stopped carrying it, but...

I went to rws-ammunition.com and on their Retailers page and under Country the U.S. isn't listed. Under Search for Dealers in your proximity the closest retailer is in Iceland. I've emailed them many times over the past 2 years and haven't gotten a response.

Has anybody been able to buy RWS R PLUS LONG RANGE? Norma Xtreme LR-22 seems to be the same thing so why would RWS make it for someone else instead of selling it themselves with an RWS label if it’s so amazing?

I know a local gunshop still has both yellow and red box Geco on hand.

 

Anschutz North America is the importer. The only one as far as I know. Last year they had over 5 cases each of over 50 different lot numbers. Hopefully they will come thru again this year, even if a bit late.

 

Last word i've seen is they still don't know when a shipment will come in. I spoke with them back in the winter and the problem was the price increase that RWS was passing along to consumers. It was ridiculous amount.

 

Every guy I know who likes R50 has been remarking on this of late.
Looks like there's hardly any anywhere in the U.S. until a ship comes in again.
To some degree, what's keeping Eley in the precision games is Lapua's and Ruag's inability to keep it coming in steadily.

I’ve been watching everywhere for some R50 to show up. There just isn’t any R50 available anywhere right now.

 

As I wrote, I've had zero success trying to find out who, if anybody, imports RWS. Why would RWS let Norma box up their latest innovation the RWS R PLUS LONG RANGE just to compete against themselves?

Once when I was talking to someone at Anschutz he told me that since they have containers coming over anyway they put ammo in them so I don't know that that makes them technically THE importer if that's true. If anyone gets curious enough maybe they could try and find the answer. I gave up.

 

ANA does, I spoke with them a couple days ago while ordering bore guide. Everything is out right now I believe. They are expecting a shipment in the next couple months I think Matt said. The stuff is just hard to come by right now.

 

Beretta now owns RWS, so you'll see ammo when Beretta gets ready, or when the right member of management gets ready. Beretta was going to build an ammo plant in Georgia. If the last few containers of ammo are coming to the Port of Baltimore, maybe never.

No new news on the "new facility" to be built in Bryan County not too far from the present facility since Nov. 2022?

 

All I know is that nothing good comes from having to deal with Beretta for anything.

 

Target rifle isnt very good. What is the difference in R100 and R50?

 

It’s my understanding that R100 is used for biathlon or cold weather and is a little bit faster because you lose speed when it’s cold. Otherwise the R50 is used for normal conditions.

 

Anschutz responded that they have a shipment of guns and RWS ammo ready to ship, but are waiting on an export permit from the German Government, to ship it out of Germany. They currently have no idea when that will be. Politics are involved.

 

In talking to Danny (ANA CEO) 2 months ago, I got this same answer.
He has a ton of cash tied up in the German bureaucratic nightmare, since last fall.

I know another guy that deals with the same export control agency who has horror stories.

So while we wait for ammo to shoot up, ANA is losing cash.
I feel more sorry for them.

I believe one of the reasons is they're importing more Norma vs RWS.

RUAG got the ball rolling here in the U.S. with Norma production in Georgia starting around 2010. (C.F. ammo)
Beretta is keeping it rolling with investment into a new Georgia, Norma production facility (Again C.F. ammo, don't think any R.F. planned)

Only RWS ammo I see are the pellets in .177cal.

 

Midwest Gun Works does have some versions of RWS ammo in stock.

 

Anshutz NA is so low on RWS that if you buy a rifle from them and have it lot tested, they only let you have half a case.

 

I wish I knew, both R50 & Special Match is as scarce as hen's teeth this side of the little pond and I'm a lot closer to EU than you folks.

Obviously, if it's not getting to Ireland, either, it's not as simple as just citing American politics.

I'd think so. Propellant, Primer, Lead, Copper, Brass (all or most) tied up, and heading east.
