Whats it worth? Buckmark slabside 5.5 with wood grips

I'm making an offer on this gun. From his description its a 1995 Buckmark, no box or papers, in good overall used condition.

I figure $150-175 for a nice used Camper, the grips add about $50 so I was thinking in the ballpark of $200-225. Here is a picture that he sent me. Looks like honest wear so as long as the rifling isn't shot out I figure its worth my ballpark.

Anyone else want to chime in on what I should offer for it?

Edit: He wants $275 for it so I probably won't be getting it.

Might be a regional thing, but I have only seen one BuckMark in the $150-175 range. I think you are on track at $225 for the one pictured, assuming it needs no replacement parts.

I have one similiar to that model, and the only issue I have is that there are no ears on the slide to assist in opening.

Ditto, I think I would buy every one if I ever saw Buckmarks for $150 locally. -Jay

I have that same model, bought new in 1992. It has given me NO problems. I also have a new 5.5" Contour, bought several months ago. I think I actually like the older one better. And I don't miss the "ears" on the bolt when I shoot it. the bolt retracts pretty easily. Buy it, you'll like it! :bthumb::bthumb:

I have two other Buckmarks already, but I was wanting another as my friends really like shooting them when we go to the range together and my g/f is thinking about trying Steel Challenge with me sometime so having two guns plus a spare would be nice.

I just figured that I can a brand new Camper for $300 (330-ish with tax) then why would I pay $275 for a 17 year old gun with lots of finish wear and who knows how many jillions of rounds through it.

The guy is a 2-3 hour drive away and he won't come down any lower so I'm going to let this one go.

I agree with your decision. I kept thinking you could buy a new one for close to his asking price. He must not have wanted to sell it or his price would have been more aggressive. I recently purchased a Buck Mark with coco grips and fire sight for a little over $300.00, brand new!

Only one magazine. He originally said he thought it was worth $350 because another gun like it was on Gunbroker for that much. He also says its in excellent condition despite the obvious wear to the finish, which in my head only makes it "good" condition as long as it still functions. He *might* budge to $250 if I tried but I just don't want to pay that for a well-used BM when a new one is only $50 away.

Oh well, I'll find another. I'm not in a huge rush to get an extra BM, but used ones just don't pop up all that often around here. I may just buy a new one...

Depends on what you plan on doing with it. If you are shooting iron sight Steel Challenge leaving it stock and maybe adding a set of Williams FO sight would make a new gun attractive. But if you were going the open gun route where you are pretty much committed to changing the barrel to an alloy sleeved one from Tac Sol, and a few other changes it makes little sense to buy a new gun with lots of new parts you won't be using. I already had one in late 2009 when I starteD building mine for SC. But when I was looking to add a second one and I already had a spare TS barrel, grips, and such I went to used route on Gunbrokers and lucked into a 1990 slab-side model with less than 100 rounds thru it, rail, cutom case, 1 old-style mag, flat plastic grips, and a Tasco 2x22 scope for $280.

I'm not deep into shooting SC yet, I've only been doing it for 6 months or so with my dad or with any friend that tags along. I have a 2003 nickel plated slabslide 4" barreled gun that has very few rounds through it that I leave mostly stock (fiber optic front sight and thats it) and a 1999 Camper.

The Camper was my first BM and has seen several changes. First was the Heggis flip, then a Rusty22 trigger, then Rusty22 1911 grip panels (which I took off to try to sort out some cycling problems, they'll go back on eventually), and a tac-sol picatinny rail. Eventually its getting a red dot and a Tac-Sol sleeved aluminium barrel. In other words, I've already got an old gun to build up for SC shooting anyway so I'd look into getting something nice as-is for friends to shoot or for a back-up.

I'm really tempted to go buy a new Camper at Academy Sports. They have them with the new contoured grip for $300 and I just got paid for some stuff I sold...

$200 is just about the rock bottom price for a (used) Buckmark in our area... any age. Add $50 for the wood grips (some like them and some don't. I love wood grips).

Now you could compare $250(used) against $330 (new) and go either way. About two years ago, I bought a 1985 buckmark like the one pictured for $225. I sold the years-worn old barrel (still shot great) for about $70 (on forums here) and bought a brand new SS barrel (again on forums here) for $100. I also did a few other things like replace the buffer, mag latch, etc.

For those doing the numbers, that was ~$255 for a 1985 BM with new wood grips and a brand new slabside stainless steel barrel. Locally, a new BM camper with polymer grips would have been about $350.

I think it all comes down to personal preferences. I have a unique and great shooting BM that would sell for about what I have in it. I wouldn't trade it for a brand new BM if someone offered!
