I am planning on buying a new gun vise. It will be used for scope mounting, maintenance and cleaning. I just want to get some input from some of you folks.

I use the CTK Precision gun vice, both for shooting when testing something on a bench, for cleaning, and for maintenance. It's portable and metal instead of plastic. The 3 feet are rubber-tipped and adjustable, and the clamp has nicely thick padding. I also added their gun rest accessory as an option. I don't do a lot of bench rest shooting (mostly testing and adjusting sights), but this does what I need it to nicely.

It's also made in the USA by a small business, which I have a soft spot for.

I have finally found my fellow reprobate. :) I've been using coins for washers, for years. It's a twenty mile drive back and forth to the nearest country hardware store. I used to burn a gallon or so of gas, spend five bucks for ten washers. We think a like. Nice set up, looks solid and protects the weapon, just like it's supposed to. (y)

I have the Tipton "best" but didn't pay anywhere near what they list it for now. Pretty sure I bought it locally. It's hugely adjustable, works well with everything I own, but a big selling point was that it came with a mag insert for an AR so you can remove the rear pin and pivot the upper and lower apart to remove the bcg. I don't see that on their site as included or as an accessory now.

I also have a Tipton Best that I bought in 2015. Uncle Larry has the same thing listed for $32 more than I paid at the time.

but if you look a bit further the same thing WITH the Wheeler screwdriver set is $1 cheaper than what I paid in 2015.

I use "Tipton's Best" but I had to make a few mods before I was really satisfied with it. And I still wish it did a better job securing the rifle in a level position. I added some stick-on metal plates to store the magnetic levels used for scope installations and drilled a few holes to keep frequently used tools handy. I also added a pair of reliefs into the main rail so I can remove and re-position the T-slot fixtures without dismantling the whole rig. I paid about $80 for it 4 or 5 years ago.
