Weihrauch HW 660 Match Anyone Own One Qestions ?

Impulse buy and for some reason , I picked up a Weihrauch HW 660 Match . Seen it at a local gun shop on consignment , and made a low ball offer . A week later, got a call and it followed me home . Was part of an estate sale and the family didn't seem to care just wanted it gone .

I've been thinking bout getting into my clubs Dewer and positional matches , when I stumbled across this gem . It's in really nice shape , perfect blueing , laminate model with only minor handling marks . No Anschutz sights , but came with a nice Elite 4000 6 -24 scope that I should be able to flip and get a nice set of sights , strait across .

I don't know a whole lot about them , other than what google-fu has turned up which aint much , most of it in German . If anyone has one , can you please let me know how to disassemble the bolt ? I printed out the owners manual , and sounds like you just un-cock the bolt handle and screw off the end . The manual says use the supplied wrench , but of coarse I don't have it . Tried twisting but no luck , and before I put a strap wrench on It , I would like to make sure , as parts seem all but Unobtainium . Thanks

If you should decide you do not likr or want the rifle, please get hold of me. Thanks
I will do . Plan on shaking it down this weekend with the scope and rest to see how tight it will print . Have a nice selection of good match fodder, R50 , SK , and some UM 22 to run through it 'm sure it will shoot better than I can shoot with iron sights . Very surprised as to the quality of this rifle . Bolt is a work of art , and fine machining of the receiver. Do you own one or know much about them ?

I've had one for about 7 years now. Mine came with the Anschutz sights and a walnut stock however. I used it as junior for position shooting and did very well with it. I routinely shot clean targets in 50m prone matches and shot a high of 398/400 in our NRA 50ft 4-p league. Very accurate and it'll compete with an Anschutz as long as the shooter does their part. I recently upgraded to a new target gun and haven't shot mine in a long time though.

Uncock the bolt and screw the end off. It might be difficult especially if its the first time it has been done. They sure did put them on tight.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'm no expert but I may have the answer through similar experience.

Thank you very much . Glad to hear I was trying to disassemble the bolt correctly . I have a few more questions , and I'm sure I will have a few more . I could do it in a PM , but maybe here in this thread will be better , as there may be others in the same boat as I , with not a lot out on the interweb about these rifles .

Is the under rail the same size as the Anschutz for accessories ? Needing a hand stop and sling attachment . Does yours favor any particular flavor of ammunition ? A lot of times , a particular manufacture uses a camber print that may work best with one or another brand of ammo .

Snapped a quick pic of the new acquisition for you . At first I was wishing was the walnut like yours , but the laminate is starting to grow on me a bit .

Yes. The rail is the same as an AnschĂĽtz. I've placed many AnschĂĽtz accessories underneath it with no trouble at all. As for ammo, I've found that SK+ and Lapua Center-X seem to work best. I've never really done a complete and thorough ammo test but I experience far fewer fliers with those particular brands.

Thank You Charlie , been a big help so far . A couple more questions for you . Shook it down this morning , and am very satisfied with the purchase . Going to start to look for a set of sights , and was wondering if any adapter will be needed for the front sight ? Do you have any recommendations for what I should be looking for , or that you have used on this piece . Is a fine adjustment rear worth the extra money spent for someone just getting into positional shooting ? I like to think buy once cry once with optics , but not sure if the bells and whistles are needed at this stage , as many upgrades can be added on as skill level progresses I'm sure . Any leads for me from your friends or shooting group who may be looking at selling a set ? I know you said you were no expert , but I'm thinking that you very accomplished in this discipline and should consider your self one :bthumb:

Side note , north of Indiana south of Canada , I take it you are in Michigan ? My folks retired In Michigan a few years back . Beautiful state , and the wife and I enjoy visiting a couple times a year . Nice to walk out the door to the dock and get out fishing with my father in his waning years .

And you were right , SK shot very nicely . Brutal morning for 22lr , was 17 degrees with the wind chill in single digits when I started this morning . Numb fingers , frozen toes , and 22 lube that's like glue . Wind half to full from my 2 o'clock . Just checked for function , and shot for a few groups with the SK . Looking forward to some nicer weather to break out better ammunition to see how it will print . Over all pleased , trigger needs a little dialing in , but liking the two stage so far .

Glad to hear you had a good day even in the cold weather! I was snowed in all day yesterday as we enjoyed some of our beautiful Michigan weather. Whiteouts and wind chill. Gotta love it. Whereabouts in the state do you visit?

I would definitely invest in a good 20 click rear sight. It'll cost more initially but will save you headaches down the road that you'll get with a cheaper 10 click sight. I don't know of anyone right now looking to get rid of one, but I'll do some asking around to see what I can dig up.

The front sight might be a little trickier. I've had trouble fitting sights cut for AnschĂĽtz rails for some reason. The rear dovetail is AnschĂĽtz and everything I've tried fits well. I'm not sure if they are two different rail sizes or not. It would make sense that they are the same but stranger things have happened. I've never measured it as mine came with a front sight that already fit but in case you ever want riser blocks it's something to be aware of. I've used a Lyman 93 front sight and with no problems.

Charlie, that's one beautiful rifle you have there!
OP I've actually shot plinker silhouette matches in Suffolk Va with a fella who has a rifle identical to yours, down to the color of the laminates, he does real well.
While I've never owned one of their rifles, I've certainly looked 'em over at Brenzovich's spot at Perry, excellent quality.
Owned a Weirauch air rifle, and still have one of their Arminius revolvers, a diverse company!
Here's the info from my ol catalog:

Thank you Charlie for more answers to all my questions . Maybe I'll get lucky , and one of your acquaintances will be looking to move some sights , keep me posted . I've got some time to play around with it , and see what it will do off a bench and then bipod . Club is having a weekend clinic in April , and they run both open and any sight matches as well as the combine ' Metric ' matches . I'm pretty green with positional shooting . Played service rifle for a couple years , And have the basic fundamentals . Seems as smallbore , has a bit more to offer around here .

My folks moved out to Michigan bout 5 years ago , south south end of the state . Coldwater , more specific Lake George area . I'm out west where its dry all the time , and in the summer there where you live its soooo beautiful and green . Just A nice place for them to retire to .

Coldwater, huh? That's only about a 30-40 minute drive from the club I shoot at. It's just north of Sturgis.

I will keep an eye out for sights and get ahold of you if I come across anything. Don't want to detract from RFC, but another place you could try is www.targettalk.com. They have some nice lightly used rear sights come through their classifieds every so often. Put up a want ad and someone will more than likely be able to set you up with something.

I think you'll learn to have a love/hate relationship with position shooting. Some days everything will be going perfect and then you'll go through stretches where you can't figure out what you're doing wrong. It definitely keeps it interesting and keeps you itching for perfection! Just don't get too crazy with the equipment and techniques from the start. It can get confusing fast and will drive you nuts. The fundamentals will get you farther than you think.

Hey Charlie , thanks for the link . Lots of good reading .Couple more questions for you . What action screw torque were you running . Having some issues with rear screw protruding into the bolt at anything over 11 inch pounds . Could run a shim or shorten the screw , but I'm thinking I might pillar the stock as may be squished at rear and void in the laminate . Also , man o man the trigger screws are sensitive for adjustment . Got way out to lunch today tweaking on them , wound up with a single stage at low low ounce bench trigger . Any tips ?

Posted some nice groups today , top set with RWS Special , and lower set with UM-22 . Good to know this will out shoot me for a long while with metallic sights

I never really checked the torque of the action screws when I was shooting it regularly. Hand tight and snug always seemed to be fine. Like I said, I was a junior shooter at the time and I had most of my focus on position, ammo, technique, girls, etc. :bthumb: I just checked them and they are currently at about 5 ft/lbs. Eleven seems a little high to me but like you said there may be a low spot in the stock somewhere that's causing you some trouble.

As for the trigger I'm afraid I don't have any tips other than spending the time and making tiny adjustments until you get what you want. It is very sensitive to any adjustment and like you said it is very easy to all of a sudden get a single stage trigger so light it's scary. I sat down with a pull gauge and repeatedly measured until I found what I thought was the very edge between single and two stage. It took some time but I was happy with the result.

You have piqued my curiosity though. Seeing your groups makes me want to do a comparison of my new rifle vs. the Weihrauch. I'd be interested in seeing how the old girl holds up.

Thanks yet again . Figured the trigger would be just spending some time , trial and error . Seems light on the action screws , but sure seems to shoot OK and not much POI shifting going on .

Glad to hear your going to pull the ' Ole Girl ' out and give her some loving . I've done that too , you loose interest in your older rifles , get all caught up in your firearm de'jour . Then you pull that old one out , and remember how much you enjoyed it :bthumb: I'm also curious as to the results you will get , and would love to see them .

And I got to ask , what replaced the old girl ? I'm figuring one of those aluminum chassis transformer jobs ?

#20 ·
During this time of year I only have access to a 50ft indoor range. I don't believe that would give a very accurate representation for a comparison. I could shoot out my backyard but unfortunately with the weather the way it is currently, it is hard enough to go outside without turning into a human icicle let alone shoot. Maybe sometime late march when we start seeing mid 40s again I'll pull her out.

You were 2/3 right. It's one of those transformer guns and it does have an aluminum chassis but the rest of the stock is carbon fiber. :D

WOW :bthumb:

Nice rig you got there Charlie , knew you were holding out not an expert my ***** . I'm thinking I would get lost with all those micro adjustments . Now I really want to see how the ' Ol Girl ' will hold up against that high-end piece . What do you feed that beast ? Those silly Germans do take the kal .22 to a whole new level EDIT Opps Swiss LOL

Hey Charlie , wondering if you could do me a great big favor . I know this is a big pain in the butt , but if you have time in the next week or so , pull the action out of your HW660 . If you can post a picture of the rear action screw hole in the stock that would be awesome . No rush and if you cant get it done no worries . Doing a little repair and going to have to put a pillar in it to make it right . Yours is the walnut , so may be different anyway . Just wondering if this laminate stock has been repaired before :(

Sorry for the late response. I've been pretty busy with work. I'll try to get some pictures up later today. Do you want just the stock or the action and stock?

My buttplate is also secured with the standard 4mm hex screw. If I'm not mistaken, the difference between the HW60M and the HW660M are mostly in the stock. The 60m stock has the adjustable buttplate but not the adjustable cheekpiece. The barrel of the 60M may be a slightly smaller diameter than the 660M but I am not completely sure. Both rifles have the same action and use Weihrauch's Rekord trigger assembly.

I don't know what your plans are with your new rifle , but I think you will be happy with your purchase :bthumb: On Target had yours on Gunbroker last month http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=465115225 . I'm thinking someone replaced the butt plate slider screw on yours , as mine is the standard 4 mm headed 5 x .8 bolt . Probably couldn't find a suitable replacement and wound up the that safety torx . I'm not sure of the differences between the 660m and 60m like yours . May only be the length of the barrel ? Post up some pictures if you can , would like to compare them , and some target results if you get a chance .

If you are a south paw , I would be interested in the right handed stock you can PM me or here .

Yep, that's how I found it. I also bought the Winchester 52D they had listed at the same time, plus 2 weeks later, I came across a Anschutz 1813 at the Mason gun show. A dealer took it in on trade, wasn't sure of the value and I made a fair offer and got a good deal and he made some money. We all walked away happy.

As for the Weihrauch, I'm right handed, so I'll be keeping the RH stock, but will probably be listing the LH for sale on a couple websites.

No worries , got the stock all figured out . Put some pillars in , and then bedded the stock this weekend . No room in the rear action screw area , but turned out nicely . Don't think will make much difference in how it shoots , as had very little rocking in the stock with out the bedding . But now should be able to evenly torque with the action screws . Here is a pic , still needs a bit more clean up .

Got the 660 back together , and a bit of range time yesterday . Trigger is back to two-stage and in the ballpark , some fine tuning needed . Here is a 6x5 set at 100 yards with Federal 922A . Not my normal club range , fought some swirling wind in the berms , and crazy boil due to almost 80 degrees . Wind flags are on the agenda , not that I would know how to use them . I'm sure I can better these results

Hi Guys on this necro thread,
Does anybody know how to disassemble the bolt on the HW660 match Target rifle. I have sold the rifle attached and she will be out of my hands in a day or two. It would be nice If IO could supply him with some sort of guidelines to aid him.
Its the only part that I have not taken apart and cleaned with a toothbrush.

Regards
Shawn Carroll
