Weaver Grand Slam 6-20 dot size? Help!

I have a Weaver Grand Slam 6-20X40 Model 800476. It has very fine crosshairs with a dot. I find the dot to be on the larger size. I had a Weaver V16 with Fine Crosshairs with Dot reticle. The dot on that was very small, which is very good for paper target shooting.

In trying to find information about the GS reticle with dot, I've read that some people have found the dot to be almost too small. The photo of my GS reticle shows that the dot is quite a bit bigger than the dot on the V16.

My question is what size is the dot on the Grand Slam? What is it on the V16? Is it possible that the size of the dot has been changed?

The following is a photo of the Grand Slam reticle (and forgive the quality as I find taking a picture of a scope reticle is not easy) followed by a photo of the V16 reticle. The crosshairs would appear to be very similar in size:

PG sir here is the break down from the information i have gotten...it may not be 100% correct.

GS 6-20 Varmint reticle is .770 to .231

GS 6-20 FCH Dot is .200 to .060

GS 4-16 varmint EBX is .624 to .156

V-16 FCH Dot is 1.00 to .250

V-24 Varmint reticle is .640 to .160

this are from low to high power settings.

Look at the reticle photos in the OP

Thanks for the figures, Signalman. When I look at the dots on the photos of the reticles (and the photos reflect the way they actually look) the V-16 dot by comparison is quite small, while the GS dot is much larger. The figures given above suggest that it should be much smaller than the V-16 dot, but clearly it is not.

What gives? Is it possible that the reticle has been changed to one with a much larger dot?

Thanks, JEE. It does look very much like the .75 dot on your old T16. I did get the scope used, and the size of the dot surprised me when I got it. I've used it at 58 yards (the so-called 50 yard distance at my club) and at that range it covers about a 1/4" wide circle on a target.

PG I am glad you posted a picture of your GS scope reticle...I have been looking for such a scope, JEE knows I have been trying to dig up the correct information on Weaver scope for years and had to buy them so I would see them first hand...because the specs were totally wrong.

I just bought a V-16 FCH Dot off of Ebay that turned out to be just a FCH so I had to return it. Now I will look for specs of the Super Slam and Grand Slam dot scopes to figure out which one will fit my needs better.

Thanks guys for the help. :bthumb:
