Also, the checkering coverage has too blocky a border and looks totally discordant of the grip's shape.

 

I did'nt get a plaque with mine. Just 2 decals.

 

My wife took one look at the blonde anniversary model and said she’d like one. That was enough for me…Done, no plaque however. I kinda like the light color. Her anniversary model shoots almost or as good as my old model that was tuned by CPC.

It is supposed replicate a maple stock. I have 2 of these: 1 Stainless Steel and 1 in blued. The blued one with the black checkering actually looks better!

 

Mine had no plaque. Like the look, like the wood, but it’s not “good” wood, it’s just the normal Ruger wood that isn’t stained.

 

i like it. the rubber recoil pad is a nice touch for an anniversary model.

I agree with the OP. That two tone stock would have been a little off-putting to me as well.

 

I kinda like the stock, apparently well enough that I bought one also.

The stock wasn’t the selling point for me, but I got a really good deal at RK guns and the stock wasn’t a deal breaker either way.

You asked but just my opinion I don't like it. I was considering a CZ457 in maple but I heard they were just a plain Jane blond stock with no figure or highlights. I passed. I'm now buying an older 452 predominantly because of the wood and metal finish.

 

When you order one in and it arrives at your ffl you are kind of at the mercy of what the supplier sent you, aren't you? I suppose you could refuse it and have him send it back, but......... I recently bought one of the light birch stocked guns from a local store. I like the look and it has some good "character" grain. Not an anniversary version. A stainless that will soon wear my blue Shaw barrel my squirrel shooting partner threaded for a suppressor.

 

no, you're not locked into any firearm, just because it was sent to your ffl, doesn't make it yours yet..don't like the condition, or anything else, and you have every right to refuse the rifle..it's not yours until you fill out the paperwork..

our family friend, who owned the LGS, where I spent many years of my 20's working at, always asked his distributors to hand pick rifles for the wood, when he would order rifles..

Utt Bugly!!!! No grain to speak of. Shows no pride in their product for an :"Anniversary Model"!

I'm one of the ones who branded it unattractive, but when I look at myself in the mirror I ain't too pretty myself 😁

 

I would have a hard time looking my LGS in the eye if I had him order a specific model for me only to turn it down once it arrived. More specificially, I would take my lumps and conclude the transaction rather than saddling him with an unwanted rifle. Or, if I commit to online ordering something sight-unseen, I assume some of the overall risk and am not going to stiff the seller/shipper with an unwarranted return.

I confess to not liking blond stocks, and I think that one is unfortunately sub-par as well. I would still complete the transaction & if it continued to bother me, would purchase another stock & do an upgrade.

I did purchase a 'dream rifle' with a so-so stock once (Rem 700 Classic in 223 Rem; qty.3570 manufactured in 2000).
It had a very plain stock (which I knew going into the transaction). I was fortunate enough to find a very attractive NOS straight-grained Remington stock - another "Classic" model; and the rest is gravy:

I like it! Great color.

 

I agree, I'm not a fan of any wood without at least some figure in it. Even a knot or two is better than straight boring wood. No character without figuring. And especially in light birch or maple like that one.

 

I bought one and the only reason I bought it was the stock.

 

With the exception of the DSP and the French Walnuts, I believe all current production sporters are just birch with different stains and different butt pads. Some are pretty, some are plain, most land somewhere in between. Most don't have a lot of grain figuring.

Most 75th Anniversary models came in a "special" box and included a 75th sticker.

Only Collectors Series came with street sign and other memorabilia.

 

When I heard Ruger was coming out with a 75th anniversary edition I was excited about it. When I saw it, not so much.
I thought it was one of the ugliest 10/22's I had ever seen, but it's growing on me over time. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it is different than any others I have seen.
My 10/22 is the Man's Best Friend edition, and came with the street sign.
I'm sure many would argue that it is the ugliest 10/22 that they have ever seen, and it would be difficult for me to refute that.
A green and black plastic stock, with a collectors series engraving?
I think the 75th anniversary model is far more appealing, just not what I was expecting when I heard about it.

 

That's a no for me. If it didn't have the awful checkering that would help. But I'd rather have walnut than maple. And no checkering. But all that matters is if the wife likes it.

 

I really like both my 75th anniversary stocks. Here is one next to. A Ruger Maple stock. Just for comparison.

 

I like the figuring more on the top but overall more the bottom. What scope is that and what trigger is in the bottom rifle?
