Hey guys,

Just got my hands on a F.A.T Torque Wrench from Wheeler and I've been checking to see what my torque settings are on action screws and scope rings. The figures I came up with what I've had it at was 20 in./lb. for the Burris Signature rings, and 35 in./lb. for the JnP action screws. This seem about right? I did a search but couldn't come up with any numbers for CZ torque settings. Thanks!

I'm going to say that my CZ's seem to do best between 20 and 28 in/lbs with it varying from rifle to rifle, just no way to say xx is the correct amount as it depends on how the action rides in the stock etc. Just another excuse to take the CZ to the range and do some shooting.:)

That's interesting...

I've got to try the lower numbers as you have. I've been slowly increasing my torque on my 453 Varmint and I'm at 30 in-pounds currently. I had read here somewhere that it should be in the 20s and I had never thought about going lower. I'll try 32 next and then as Skip C says, 34, and then circle back and try the lower numbers like 16. I started this deal at 20 in-pounds and I can't figure out if it's the torque (constant for 2-4 range trips), ammo( constant SK Std +), wind(never constant but calmer in the summer) or even my skill improving(no comments, please:) ). I've seen no radical changes and my group average for a range period varies a bit. It has been going down slightly over the last few months. Still can't consistantly get under .5" at 50 yds.

Let us know how your testing goes at the lower numbers.

I did my testing last spring at 25 yards at an indoor range, using CCI std velocity. I think I'm a better shooter now, and I've been using SK+ and SK Match. I don't remember why I went low on the torque values - I think I started at 20 in-lb and went up and down from there.

I use a used Utica device. I rigged up a test fixture to verify the settings, and adjusted the tool to indicate correctly. It may still be off somewhat, but my opinion is that it is reading relatively close to the true value.

My 452 likes 24. My action is bedded, but even before the bedding it liked 24. One absolute must for my rifle is to gradually torque it down starting low, and alternating between the two action screws. I start at about 14 and slowly step up to 24 in about 3-4 steps. Using this method (that I discovered by accident) my 452 will shoot sub .5 groups. If I just reassemble and go right to 24 my groups open up to about 1.25. Don't know why but I've done this several times with the same result.
