There are more of these than I thought........they're available on Amazon and probably in other places.

I didn't realize how many there are. I have found the ones I've seen to be VERY well done and realistic.

Anyhow, I copied list so I could watch them all in a fairly proper sequence.

I used to be a big fan of Robert Parker's works. Other writers are continuing his characters but the last one that I picked up had a decidedly anti-gun message so I gave up on them.
Keep in mind that, as you correctly noted, there are several writers who have been commissioned by Parker's estate to continue his series. I would suggest that you re-visit some of the recent books because they will not all have the same message.

Probably true, as it is for most book/movie adaptations.
But the movies do stand out among the usual inane drivel that is American major broadcaster TV
I rarely read writers who continue another writer's series, but I'd make two observations about Parker:
  • Parker "finished" Raymond Chandler's "Poodle Springs," and he did so brilliantly.
  • He seemed to know his guns well enough. Spenser's main gats were a Hi-Power and a .38 J-frame. If you recall the novel where Spenser gathers his best/toughest gunfighter friends for an epic showdown with some bikers, Spenser picks up a Ruger .44 carbine to supplement his usual fare. For what was available, it wasn't a bad call.
I've sort of avoided Parker's Spenser series of books, because I just don't have that much time! But I'm sure there just as good as all of his other series of books. I've read a lot of the Stone/Sunny Randall books and got addicted to Parker's excellent old western series (most people don't even know about these) with lawmen Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch. Hitch, the deputy, carries an 8 gauge double barrel that he uses often to decisive effect. The books are gritty and ring true for the time, and the dialog is not effusive, often comically so, which seems right too. Most of these books have been written by Robert Knott after Parker's death, and he has done an absolute wonderful job in continuing the series.

As for Justified, I was also a big fan and look forward to the new series with Raylan Givens. Elmore Leonard is another of my favorite authors.

Finally, I have never been a Tom Clancy fan since his first few books, but another favorite author, Marc Cameron has carried on writing with Clancy's characters, and he's heads and shoulders above Clancy in my opinion. He also has his own series/characters; the best of which is about a US Marshall (Arliss Cutter) from Florida who gets reassigned to Alaska. (y)

We have watched all the shows and read most of the novel as both the wife and I are Selleck fans. I consider him to be at his very best in westerns though and he has made a bunch. I'll pick Quigley Down Under as his best even if the bucket shooting scene was somewhat over blown. He is pretty darn good in Blue Bloods now.
