Hello guys,
New to this site and this is my first post. I have the Tikka beaver tail forend on order along with the mountain tactical trigger spring for my new T1x. I've been shooting it now for about 2 weeks in 22 benchrest league. For glass I am using a Tract Toric 3 X 15 SFP. I am wondering if anyone knows the width of the forend. I wanted to order a bag rest for it ahead of time. My rest is the Sinclair Heavy Varmint. This rifle will be used for benchrest so I am hoping for improved stability on the front rest. I have adjusted the factory trigger down as far as it will go, hitting the trigger assembly screw. It came down to 2lb 2oz.
Any recommendations also appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Thanks you for the replies guys. Exactly what I was looking for. After drawing up it looks l like I would pick up approx. .4" width where the T1x sits on my rest. Being I have not seen one hopefully it is a flatter profile then the rounded profile factory forend. I also have a T3x so any mod experimenting will be interchangeable.
These rifles are exactly what I wanted, extremely accurate hunting rifles I could easily modify for benchrest shooting if desired.

Mr. Nolan,
I am new to this benchrest shooting and I didn't know you could even mount a 3" plate to the T1x. I appreciate that input. Could you be a little more specific.

Thanks again for the replies.

Hi Danny,

There are plates that use the sling swivel stud or the stud is removed and the hole is used to attach the plate. The plate has sides that adjust to the width of the forend. Like the Sinclair one in the link below. I've had one for 30 or so years that was made my Hart called the Accuracy Asset. I thought I had a pic on my phone or Imgur account but can't find one. I'll try to get a pic later

One thing to consider is if you're using the T1x for ARA Factory Class adding a forend plate will not be allowed

Thank you for the link. Certainly opens up another option i didn't know existed. I am still waiting for forend and trigger spring to arrive so I can try it. Thank you for letting me know of that option.

Fred, thank you for taking the time to give me those measurements.

One of these will help:

At least it helped mine but I don't know how much because i don't have a trigger gauge.
If you are in the states, the shipping on one screw from Australia to here is crazy high so I bought one of these:

I think what you want is the M6 x20MM Tapered head to give you more room to back out that screw. (Please double check YOUR screw)
I also ordered an M6x10mm socket head screw to replace the screw that holds the mag housing on.

I know this sounds weird, but mine were the best %%%% machined screws I have ever seen...I think these were made by a real professional machinist.
As the son of an engineer and friends with many machinists/gunsmiths (all now retired :( ) I was as giddy as a schoolgirl when I saw the quality of these screws. And they do combine shipping too!

Hi Guys,
The beaver tail grip and Mountain Tactical trigger spring came Saturday and i installed them Sunday. Wanted to give an update.

Tikka Beaver Tail Grip:
No instructions but pretty straight forward easy install. A screw came with the grip and was longer than the existing factory screw. I put the new longer screw in the rear hole where the factory screw was and the shorter factory screw in the forward most hole (muzzle end). I did have concern over contact with the forward screw and barrel. Slid a dollar bill down between the barrel and new screw and there was no barrel contact. Just wanted to make sure.
I had to let some sand out of my 13B Edgewood radius bag because I had it set up for the factory T1x radius forend. I was pleased with how the new wider and flatter beaver tail locked it.

Mountain Tactical trigger spring:
As I mentions before with my factory adjusting screw out as far as it would go, hitting the trigger assembly screw, I got it down to 2lb 2oz measure with Lyman trigger gauge. I used a 4 mm 3/8 drive hex bit socket to break loose the trigger assembly screw. Popped right loose. Pulled out trigger assembly and unscrewed the Allen head adjusting screw. Make sure you tilt the trigger assembly back so factor spring and little do dad thing doesn't fall out. Gently shake factory spring out. Place new spring in first then the little do dad with short end into the spring, followed by the Allen head adjusting screw. Then reinstall the trigger assembly. I didn't have a tork specification on the trigger assembly screw but so be careful, I am pretty sure it is aluminum.

Note: Before you remove the trigger assembly screw, you have to screw the trigger adjusting screw in enough to make room for removal. This is where I left it after reassembly so there is more adjustment left. After rifle reassembly I did 5 test pulls with my Lyman trigger gauge. It averaged exactly a 1 lb. pull. This was followed by 5 successful drop tests.

Conclusion: First time out was our Monday night benchrest league. I shot my best score to date. In my opinion the beaver tail grip definitely adds stability and the one pound trigger pull for benchrest is sweet. I would not recommend either mod for hunting but if you want a low cost improvement to a factory TIx for bench rest I would give them both 5 stars.
