At Scheels today. So, should one buy the "premium" Thunderbolts (based on the price) or the "cheap" Golden Bullets. I have been buying Golden Bullets again (because I am cheap) and they have worked well for me. I don't think I can justify the high-end Thunderbolts.

Yeah... here we ago again... there's garbage, then dog crap, then mega garbage (NO reference to the "T" man), then Chuck Shummer, then Vladimir Putin, then Remington ammo...

Absolute worst garbage there is... are you desperate, or is it the only thing you can find??

Seriously, you can't find anything that looks remotely close to the attached pix??
Stocked up on the WM red box when Trump was in office, other stuff when I found sales or it was available. ZERO ISSUES with any of it, pistol or rifle.

Hell, blazers are better than anything R

Surprised you didn't stock up when the "T" man was in office - bargains galore back then.

UPDATE: YES, I have tried both the turds & the less turdy, my comment is based personal experience, not that of other forum members, this one or any other.

Figured I better clear that up while I can.

Ok, first off, why is the Golden Bullet box of 525 smaller than the Thunderbolt box of 500??

That looks strange.

Second, are you sure those prices were correctly marked? Something smells bad.

Third........in these days of ammo shortages and companies fighting hard to keep up with demand.......it's really hard to predict how a specific brand and/or line of ammo will perform.

But I'd grab the Golden Bullets in this scenario.

:)

One has to remember REM(ammo) is under new ownership and is separated from who
bought the firearms part of the company.
Quality may have changed from what it has been the last few years.
Might go down hill or hopefully improve to at least current CCI levels
I added 2 of those 525 packs to my latest order to give them a try for minute of beer can.

On the Rem site the Golden are $1 cheaper @ $47.99. That store must have "old stock" selling at last years' price and the T-butts are gouging y'all. Of course neither price takes shipping into account.
FWIW, I've had good luck with the Golden for 'low-end' HV ammo. It cycles my semis better than SV tho not as accurate.

In regard Thunder versus Golden, the real problem is Remington powder. While it may qualify as a propellant its a bit like flushing wet wipes down the toilet into your septic tank. You will be sorry eventually. I would not treat a gun that way. Never mind accuracy, they are just too filthy. Give them to that guy at the range who is always bothering you. 🤣

Just got back into shooting after a 3 year hiatus and didn't want to dip into my stockpile of ammo. When I started shooting my CZ-457 LUX, I broke it in with Golden Bullets and they performed well. I just bought a couple of boxes of the value pack, and boy I couldn't believe the quality. Some bullets had gauges. One was so badly deformed I wouldn't load it. When I shot them, there was no consistency. Some had a moderately loud crack, some a moderate crack and too many a soft crack, as they left the barrel. And I couldn't believe the flyers. Don't know if I had a bad box, or what.

This morning it was so bad, I dug around in my ammo box and found the same bullet ( 36 grain, 1280 fps, HP, copper plated) by Winchester. The difference was remarkable. Each shot was consistent, with a sharp crack, more than GB, and pretty much went where I was holding.

I'll be using up the GB just to get my body back into shooting shape, but when I'm ready to start shooting for precision, I don't know.

(edit) Oh yeh, I've used Thunderbolts in the past. Liked them. Will have to try them again.

With the new owners of Remington ammo who knows what to expect. I shot the older GB lots more than the TB because I thought the TB leaded up my barrel. That was then and with the new owners I hope this is the best Remington ammo ever. I need some centerfire ammo so I hope the CoreLokt are exceptional.

I know nothing of the current Remington Golden Bullets but the GB rnd nose accumulated years & years ago still shoot pretty accurately out of a couple of my rifles. The stash of GB hollow points accumulated back then are pretty fair in the accuracy department. The current TB's offerings are not near as accurate as the old GB's, I only shoot them for the sake of shooting out of my already inaccurate Ruger 1022 carbine.

I've never had the opportunity to fire Thunderbolts but recently picked up a bucket of Remington Golden Bullets. I've been using hem for practice in my S&W 617 with great luck. 1500 rounds without one problem

If I could find more they would become my go-to ammo for Steel Challenge Matches.

Biggest advantage the have is I can fire 500 rounds without cleaning my cylinder. Other brands I can't get away with more then 3 reloads.

These are sad times indeed. I would never have considered that I would be seeing a discussion along these lines. But it speaks to how the availability of ammo has changed.

In the for the what it's worth department, I have always considered Golden Bullets to be superior to Thunderbolts....which isn't necessarily saying a great deal. The last batch of Thunderbolts I purchased were really bad with lots of underpowered bullets. I quit shooting them when an underpowered shot resulted in a bullet stuck in the barrel.

The GBs can be dirty, but they have pretty well always went bang for me. But CCI Minimags will put them both in the shade.

Had the exact opposite experience. Thunderbolts have been awful, weak and inconsistent. For me, anyway. Would not run our 10/22s reliably.

So setting up a beginner youth steel target event found some GB buckets in the ammo closet at the clubhouse. Thought "gee, maybe I can use these......teach misfire drill, and cull the crap ammo at the same time".

So took some GBs and ran them through a couple guns (10/22 and G44) w/chronograph before the event.

First, they were consistent, lower ES than my own Blazer and SV. Second, they were as reliable as the other two. Third, they were hot......as in chrono'd about 80 fps faster than the 40 gr Blazer from the G44.

Fast forward to the event......about 700 GBs downrange through about 8 different rifles - semis and bolts. Zero misfires.

Well then, bought me a couple buckets.
