WELCOME TO THE WATERING HOLE

A stress-free place to gather and share whatever is on your mind! A fun place of mutual respect where you can hang your hat, vent, relax and shoot the bull for a while!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate that faith.

Image

To all others, Happy Spring!

Easter symbolizes a new beginning, so it is fitting that TWH has a new beginning as well!
Along with RFC, TWH has been remodeled!

Image

Actually, it can be anything you imagine it to be!

I am happy to announce that due to the increased bandwidth of the new RFC, there is no longer a need for the weekly closing and re-opening of TWH!!! After 10+ years of weekly "flipping" we now get to keep the doors open continuously! My sincere thanks to our moderators, especially Sophia, for making this possible!

I would also like to thank all the members who have kept this boat afloat for so long! We have become like family here, and now have a permanent residence! (y) While we have many long-time members who have been enjoying the company found in this amazing virtual bar, we also welcome all new folks. Jump right in! The first drink is always on the house and Veterans always have an open bar!
Al The Infidel (Tubby Slayer extraordinaire) is the bar manager.

So, let's get this re-opening celebration going! Set 'em up, Al! Drinks all around!!!

Fantastic way to kick off a new beginning, Rhody. (y)

Many thanks to you for getting this started over a decade ago and for keeping it running as smoothly as it has all these years. Thanks, too, to the denizens of TWH who welcome new members to RFC and for keeping it a light-hearted place to relax while self-moderating so the flying monkeys can continue to relax in their cages.

For my friends practicing the western faith, Happy Easter! Christ is Risen! It's a day to remind ourselves of the presence of the divinity in all of us and a reminder to treat each other with kindness and respect in all we do.

So, how will ye grognards keep track of the days without the weekly flipper to remind you it's Sunday? How will ye cope with the last last having been posted at last? What will you do in the wee hours instead of hitting that refresh button hoping to be first to catch the flip? Will Donut Friday be the only call to the calendar?

This is precious- took my 14y/o daughter to school @ 3AM for her 8th grade Washington DC trip. Wife was supposed to chaperone, but couldn't go; she was hospitalized in mid April for diverticulitis with a bowel rupture & is still recovering from the surgery... Sucks because I went in 8th grade & chaperoned my sons class 2 years ago. My wife has never been to DC, so we are going to plan a family trip there in 2024... Daughter sent me this pic while I was working today...

55° with a high of 72° predicted, better get out and enjoy while it’s here. Trails need tending to with the weeds getting tall. Cool weather where you can actually wear long pants without sweating to death and having tick spray on pant legs is nice.

G'morning all..

It hit 90 in the shade yesterday. It's 63 here and now, with highs around 90+ by this afternoon.
I'm tired of this already.

Waiting on Nikon to get my latest and greatest camera shipped. Should be sometime today.
I've made room for it in the safe.

In the meantime we're going down to (south) park before it gets TOO hot.
A spot of breakfast and nearly ready to go..

Life in the great PNW... :)

People just don’t think or get a Mastiff puppy before doing the research. Cousin had one that at sixteen weeks was already headed to a 100 pounds. While enjoying a Thanksgiving meal at relatives a two year old tot climbed in the crate with him to play. Pup never stopped growling the entire time the kid was in there with him playing. By six months he was rehomed after a bite to one of the kids drew blood. Great dog but too much with small kids and they were back to Labs.

Was at a job site remodeling a kitchen with new countertops and set in the truck waiting for the homeowner to arrive. The entire time their Mastiff played with a 16 pound bowling ball. He would get his teeth in the finger holes and carry it to the top of hill and let it roll down to do over again. The misses finally showed up with a baby in a carrier to let me in and show me around. As I measured the kitchen the baby was left on a stair landing with the Mastiff wrapped around her. I had to then measure an upstairs vanity for replacement and the Mastiff would have no part of me going up those stairs. Face to face with a growling 160 pound beast doing what he was bred for was not pleasant.

Talk about slot car fast! Wow! ...

Max Chilton breaks Goodwood hillclimb record in McMurtry Automotive Speirling (msn.com)

And in other news; it never did rain last night but the cold front has broken the triple digit weather and it's a loverly chilly 79°
outside this morning. High may not reach 90, tho it will get there tomorrow for sure. In any case knocking ten degrees of the top of what we've been having of late is a huge dif. and I'm most thankful for it too. Presently wind N 7 and RH up to a more normal 56%. Pretty nice out.

Will spend time behind the mower and have the lawn dealt with before dusk arrives. Was a time not too distant that it was a lot less arduous, but the respiratory infection(s) contracted over the past few and at least one, possibly more and man made at that, have taken their toll on my endurance. The heat just
exacerbates it. Bicycle type exertion is not something I have much capacity for but walking I can do. Probably should be doing more than just mowing or walking around on a sporty clays course for my own benefit but the heat is a def limiter to whot I can reasonably do in the summertime. Not a complaint [it wouldn't do any good], it's just whot the reality is... and acceptance is less stressful than muttering about maroons and/or stuff outside my control. Still have to spit those kinda thoughts out on occasion, just to rid them from my system when they build up. Discretely, of course, as there are no cuspidors for their polite containment.

I'm going to have a BLT for a late breakfast and cook a beer can chicken during the afternoon for our dinner and gnawing pleasure. Also making a cucumber salad this AM that will get refrigerated afterwards until tomorrow or the day after to properly fully meld in its summer goodness. Waiting for the salt to leech the moisture from them now; it will take a coupla hours & then they get thoroughly wrenched w/a cold water bath and drained once again before being toweled off and mixed w/thinly sliced red onion and meaty red bell pepper slices and a bit of sour cream and black pepper for the long chill.

The coffee is exceptionally good this fine morning. Y'all have a great day! Good, reading of your continued improvements, Rock. 👍

Pup I wanted was adopted yesterday. Visits and adoption are by appointment only, earliest I could get was Friday. Oh well, story of my life.
Did you keep your appointment for Friday? You should at least go visit with them, you might find a new friend that you didn’t know you couldn’t live without.

Well i am officially a pinnaple farmer at 8am this am i went into the HR ladys office and handed her my door key card and told her im retiring today. Now i gotta find somthing to occupy myself for about 10 to 12 hours a day.
I dont have enough ammo to sustain me for more than a year so i guess i will have to find somthing else mix in there to streach it out.
