The Marlin 795- not so popular at RFC?

I recently purchased a Marlin 795 and I really like it. I don't tend to see much in the way of threads about it on RFC. Is it that it just isn't liked or is it just not spoken of? Something else? Is this not the forum for it? If so- sorry.

Anyone else have one of these here?

Here's the collection as it sits, top to bottom: Glenfield Model 100, Marlin Model 600 (with Weaver 2.5-7), Marlin XT-22VR (with cheap BSA 6-24) and new Marlin 795 (pictured with Simmons 4x)

I think the slow traction in the Marlin forum regarding 795 and other rifles is that they are reasonably priced, accurate, reliable, fun to collect and don't require upgrades to function properly. So what is there to talk about other than when one of us gets a new one?!? While I don't have a 795 (I'd like the Liberty Training Rifle variant) I do have the 60, 75C, 99M1, 989M2, 56, 39A, 15Y, 70 Papoose, etc. I'm a fan and always looking towards my next rimfire purchase!

I was kinda thinking that too. I'm glad to see this rifle is appreciated though. Thanks for the links everyone. I had actually read quite a bit of the older posts already but some I had not. Nice collections too fellas.

Having taken the 795 out twice now we really like it. It has not had any issues cycling high velocity and standard that I have tried with it. The action feels so nice. It's light enough that when I shoot it offhand there is actually some recoil- enough to make it off target a bit. Not used to that I guess.

I actually put some money down and got the paperwork started up on yet another Marlin today too. :hide:

I bought a second one recently and equipped it with Hawke Vantage 2x7AO and am very happy with it. I much prefer it to my 10-22 because of the narrow cross section.
Both are reliable can destroyers.

I also have a Model 70PSS Papoose take down that is very accurate and reliable but the barrel nut vibrates loose in 10 rounds . It is aggravating to use and I would not recommend this product.

Additionally I have the Model 60 50th anniversary model .The Model 60 is the first gun every boy should have. I have already bought my oldest Grandson one.

I bought a 795 a couple of years back. Outfitted it with a Boyd's stock. I shot it quite a bit but was disappointed in its accuracy. It just wasn't in the same class as my Glenfield model 60. So I sold it (at a profit) and purchased a Remington 597hb. Like the 795, it functions perfectly but still is not in the same class as my old model 60. I let my nephew "borrow" my model 60 after I bought my 795 so now I am looking for another model 60 with the long barrel.

My beat up old Model 600 is a dead on shooter too. I haven't shot the 795 on bags so I don't really know how precise it is but from what I've seen it's quite good. The new Marlins are pretty accurate from what I've seen but one cannot discount their own experience either. If I hadn't seen that I'd probably think the same as you.

I've got a new Model 60 coming before too long also. I like the new ones- I have two from Connecticut, one from Kentucky, two from Alabama. The Model 60/600 etc is my favorite auto 22. I LOVE the old one I have but am really looking forward to the 150th Anniversary Edition Model 60 that I'm currently buying. I like that black walnut.

I am a disabled vet, like many i reload for almost all my firearms. Most of my shooting is on rests or bags, so accuracy is an important factor. My model 60 would shoot 1 ragged hole at 50 yards. My 795 would shoot .75 to 1" groups at the same distance with the same ammo. I suppose it could be the barrel length difference but I was disappointed in its performance. I am still breaking in my 597hb so I dont really know how accurate it is.

What magazine s do 2003 era 795's use? Thanks !
This one. New magazines will work in older rifles, but older magazines will not work in a new rifle without some modification to the magwell of the rifle.

My first rifle was a Marlin model 25N bolt gun. Many many years later I picked up a Glennfield model 70 from an uncle. Shortly thereafter I picked up a new model 795. All three use the same style magazines (the 25N and 70 can use all of my mags while the 795 can only use about half of them). I kitted both the 70 and 795 out for Appleseed with TechSights and slings, but ended up using a scoped loaner on day two of my Appleseed shoot (was too lazy to walk back to the car and get the 795 after the 70 had consistent FTE issues).

The more I tinker with my .22lr conversion bolt for my AR, the more I appreciate just how accurate my Marlins are out of the box!

Years ago Marlin made the 795 in stainless and they need to bring that back and put a nice laminate stock on it, they would sell many and a lot more people would become 795 collectors. I always wanted a stainless 795 but never bought one, mine is the blued version with a Mcarbo trigger spring and DIP trigger. It shoots very well and I recently bought a Boyds stock for it, you know the way it should come from the factory.

I love the 795 and it is just as good as the 60

I do not like the tube magazines on the Marlin semi-autos that were made with them, including the 60. I like the so-called clips so I bought a 795 in 2009, right away I put a laminate stock on it, and later Tech Sights, and metal trigger guard and trigger etc. It is a wonderful gun. But yes, to me much better with a laminate stock as opposed to synthetic.

Here's mine. Boyds stock, DI Products trigger and guard. Tech Sights. It's a shooter alright.
I have the Tech Sights on my 795. I have Leupold Rifleman Rimfire see through mounts with a Simmons TargetPro Rimfire 2x7x32 on top. The Tech Sights are close to the scope in grouping at 50 yards. They would probably be more accurate without the scope although I have 67 year old eyes. The 795 shot a 3/4 " group with the scope and 1 1/4" With the Tech Sights. The Boyd's looks great, but I like the lightness of the synthetic stock when I am out squirrel hunting.
