I searched for pics of a 10/22 .920" barrel using Tech Sights. Seen BUNCHES of these sights on factory barrel though.

Anyone???

thanks,

Tech-sights on .920 Barrel

I've been thinking about this same thing. For Appleseed shoots

I have a few concerns.

How is the adapter installed on the .920 barrel, with just lock-tite. Maybe drill and tap the adapter for set screws
How did you line it up to be square with the receiver?

I have done a lot of research on installing receiver sights on .920 barrels.
Here are some of my options.

1) You can get a .812 clamp-on barrel band from CCS and use a Lyman Target globe and the tech rear sight or a Williams FP Target receiver sight. I think it will fit a .920 Barrel with a little help.

2) You can use a Clamp-on .936 AR-15 Gas Block with a rail, use any front sight that mounts to a rail.

There are a few options out there, I was never able to get any GOOD answers to my questions from Tech-Sights.

I would love to have an AR front sight and a good micrometer aperture type for the rear sight. Not having a longer sight radius would be a disadvantage though but think the better sights would make up for it.

I'm about ready to order the higher priced rear sight, the front sight, and the adapter and calling it done.

Can you elaborate on the ".922 clamp-on barrel band from CCS and use a Lyman Target globe" part? who is CSS? What part numbers are you considering? That sounds interesting......

thanks,
Keith

Tech-sights on a .920 Barrel

Hello Keith,

Here is the link to the front barrel. This one uses a Lyman #93 Front Target Globe

band.http://www.champchoice.com/detail.aspx?ID=1296

Brownells has the parts listed:
clamp-on barrel base # 527-000-002AC: $ 40.95
base, # 841-101-225AC, $ 12.00
Lyman #93 Globe # 539-620-100AC $ 55.95

Williams Rear FP Target Sight $ 84.95

I know this is WAY more money than the tech-sights. It is up to you if you think the products are worth the difference or not.

Here are the part numbers for option 2:

100-003-129AC Clamp-on Rail 1" $ 78.95

You could use any AR-15 front sight that mounts to a rail, and if you have a weaver scope base mounted, any AR-15 Rear sight that mounts to a rail will work.

This option would put the sights higher in the air, if it matters.

Here is my last option: Get the 527-000-002AC from Brownells, get the MARLIN front sight from Tech-Sights. You should be able to screw the Marlin Front sight to the Brownells band ( 6-48 screw ). and then you have a choice of rear sights.

I'm going to try option 3 if I can get Tech-sights to sell me just the Marlin Front sight assy, and use the Williams rear sight. The biggest complaint I've heard about the tech-sights is that they are hard to adjust on the firing line. ( I have know way of knowing if that is true ).

If the Tech-Sight adapter was tapped for set screws I might feel better about using it. I guest that would be easy to do, as another option and use the Williams Rear Sight. FP Rimfire High Profile w/Target Knobs

As I said I've thought about this for a while.

Do you know for sure that the sight height on option #2 is correct? I guess what I am saying is will the sight height both front and rear jive with each other?

Money is always a consideration but would spend the extra if it were better.

From the sounds of it a drilled/tapped hole at the 4:00 and 8:00 position might get it lined up (and keep it there) for the Tech-Sight adapter. Not sure of the thickness of the metal in that part of the adapter though.

Below is a pic of one of my Russian Cm-2's. It is amazing how accurately you can shoot with decent peep sights. I would like to end up with something similar.

I would like a sight that was (somewhat) easy to adjust on the Line while shooting.

Sometimes I over-think things. I might be just as well off just getting the Tech sights and calling it DONE???

Thanks for your research.

Keith

The adapter from Tech-Sights works great. I used the "red" (permanent) thread locking compound to attach the adapter to my stainless barrel. To mount it in proper relation to the receiver/barrel, I had to:

* Put the barreled action in a vise, and use a level to ensure the receiver was horizontally level.

* Attach the adapter, and rotate it until a level laid across the dovetail slot showed that it too was horizontally level.

Took about 15 mins of work; after that, it was just let it dry and use it! I don't know if the thread-locking compound would hold up if you were using the rifle as a club and bashing it against things. But for the simple purpose of holding on the lightweight Tech-sights front sight, it does great. It has held for over 2 years of continuous shooting, in all types of weather. And if it ever comes off, I can simply re-attach!
