Taurus Peep sight for model 62 pump

I've been looking at the Taurus tang mounted peep sight for my Rossi model 62SA pump at this web site:

http://www.gun-parts.com/peepsights/

I would like to know if anyone has had experiences with this sight and what tapping needs to be done to install it properly. Ideas?

Thanks,
Kix

I recently added one to my 62 Lever action. It's the same model used on the 62SA. I works great!:bthumb: It is not the quality of the Marbles tang on my 1897 Marlin Cowboy. However, it is not the price. For 30 bucks you can't beat it. It does the job. I can't address the tapping issue. The lever action only needs the longer screws for mounting.

Taurus peep sight

I'm not pleased with the factory buckhorn sights on the Rossi 62SA pump that I have. No matter how low I set the rear sight the gun still shoots 4-5 inches high at 50 yds. I've even removed the stepped ramp that adjusts the rear sight where the sight is actually resting on the barrel and the gun still shoots high. I'm hoping that with a tang mounted adjustable peep I can compensate for this sighting discrepancy. Can you mount the sight with the tang screw that is already in the gun or do you have to have a replacement screw?

Thanks,
Kix

You need an replacement screw...

which is longer than the factory screw. I have read somewhere, probably on this forum, of the same elevation problem on a Taurus gun. The person who owned it sent the gun back and it was fixed under warranty, if I remember correctly. I do not know what the warranty is on the Rossi guns, but it might be worth a call.

Price increase on Taurus tang sight

These sights are still available through cheaperthandirt.com for under $30.00 plus shipping, including the mounting screws. The reason I asked about tapping a screw hole to mount mine is that I have the older Rossi version of this rifle. The older Rossi model 62SA pump rifles only have the stock mount screw with no hole tapped for the front screw of the sight. I understand that the later Taurus models of this gun have the front screw hole already in place so installation is a snap. Other opinions on this sight?

Yup, it sure does! I'll also wager that when it arrives it will have about $1.05 in postage on it. Just a plain rip off. I bought one of these sights on ebay for $18.00 without screws. What I plan to do is to leave the long stock screw alone and just tap both holes in the tang and use standard blued gun screws. I think I can get batter placement for the sight by doing this anyway.
I'll try to post some pictures when I'm done.
