Anybody know if this gun is easily available?
http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?id=440&category=Rifle

I recently ordered one from impactguns.com and haven't heard anything on how my 'backorder' is going. This is my first transaction with them and I understand if they don't get it in 30 days the order is just cancelled? I'm all set with my receiving FFL and payment, I just need them to get a hold of one.

Thanks for any input.

Taurus may show it listed on their web site but I checked with 4 wholesalers that carry Taurus and none of hem even have a computer # listed for it. They all carried them and had them on their web sites before but now don't list even a part # for them in the inventory. In my experience when the wholesalers drop a item from their system it si no longer available from the manufacturer. Maybe with some luck you will find a new one,

I had one of those and was real happy when i traded it off.
not accurate, stupid little safety on top of the receiver and had no
provision for working the action to cyle rounds through it without
manualy lowering the hammer each time you chambered around
unlike a henry. also lost the mag tube in a canal and after a year was
still not available through taurus. finaly the sales rep gave me one fron his
sample gun.

Dang,

Maybe I don't want one now. On paper and for the price it looks like a decent carbine for the $$. Anybody else have any experience with the M72? What other .22 mag pump (or semi) options are there out there? I like the Rem. 597 but wanted something around $300ish. I'd also prefer a smaller carbine. If I spot a clean, used Weatherby, I'll definitely fork out the extra dough for it just for collecting sake. On the Weatherby subject, are the Japan or Italian made ones more desirable?

Yes, I have had experience with the 72s. They are very nice and shoot great for the most part. I don't know why they stopped making them but I sold quit a few at guns shows because of the price. I would say they were well worth the money and I don't know of anyone having any problems with the ones I sold.

yes I have one in ss and like it alot, I had the rifle but traded it in on the carbine because it packs smaller and points faster, great rabbit/varment gun, if I knew they would discontinue them Im may have bought another.

I also had a ruger 1022 mag but I like my guns to cycle every time so I went to the pump.

Thanks for the replies everyone,

I'm holding out for a SS carbine Model 72 if I can find one. I'm not really interested in the 23" barrel blued Model 72.

I'll keep my eyes on gunbroker.com and also at the local gun show. Who knows? Maybe impactguns.com can come through for me.

I have the 17hmr version and i and my wife have put at least a thousand rounds through it and it has been great. It is one of my wife's favorites. I was at my clubs shoot this year and i pulled it out and did a ten round fast fire and it got positive attention from the spectators. I like the gun.

I have been trying to buy a couple of Taurus 72 stainless carbines for 3 years. If you try calling Taurus, good luck to you, as every time that I have called I have been put on unlimited hold.

When I couldn't get the Taurus or Rossi 22 Mag pump guns, I started buying Winchester 275 pump guns and have been happy. The Taurus and Rossi are better survival guns, because the are easier to take-down into a shorter package, but the Winchesters are pretty fair rifles that can be bought for around $180+/- on GB/AA/GA quite frequently.
