I might have done too much research and now Im just wiped out. But I want to know what the best recommended targets are to get in order to brand/lot test ammo with?

Thanks in advance.

I use two types of targets for ammo testing.

When starting with an unfamiliar lot#, I first shoot 5-round groups at targets with 10 on a page. This lets me evaluate Standard Deviation and Extreme Spread, to adjust my Point of Aim with respect to the Point of Impact, and to measure groups. I scan these sheets into my Archive.

When I identify ammo with ES < 50fps and/or SD < 10fps and/or groups smaller than 1 MOA (1/2" @ 50 yards), I then use one of various 'Green Monster' sheets with a few sighter targets and 25 shots for score. The one I use is "IBS Rimfire 50 Yards" from the National Target Co.

Do you happen to have a link for where to purchase these targets?

5 x 5's using any of these

on the graph paper I make a red dot with a felt tip at the intersections or use a 1/2 inch stick on dot

I like the shoot-n-see type reactive targets. I typically buy a roll of 100 or 200 reactive Bullseye round targets. For 50 yards I use the 3” Bullseye. For 100 yards I use the 4” Bullseye reactive targets.
Using a large piece of rectangular cardboard, I will have 4 or 5 rows of stick-on targets. Five shots per target. I retrieve the target after firing & make a decision choice: fire some additional 3” targets with different ammo, or select the best targets/ammo & set up for the 100 yards.
I take home the targets for later examination, grading & scoring…

One of my pet peeves I see/endure when I watch the internet boys shoot for groups, test custom barrels & ammo tests, is they invariably cheap out on targets. Re-use the same target over & over….
Some shoot squares next to their actual test instead of replenishing with a new target, while others just crudely hand draw targets while they fire $3000.00 rifles.
Others cheap out & use photocopy paper or unsuitable paper that rips & tears when bullets pass through. Some just use a black magic marker dot on a blank white sheet & think this suffices. Wake up internet shooters & posters! Use better targets!

My new favorite is the ARA Factory rifle target. Heavy material and easy to see the holes in the target and only $22.00 per hundred. I set the scope to where the aiming point is actually off center to allow me to concentrate on the dot and not have it (my point of aim) vanish after a shot-or two... You keep your good aiming point with the actual group off to the side.
If you are shooting a less than accurate rifle there might not be enough space between bulls though.

I developed my own target for 50 yard rimfire lot testing and tuning. The concentric circles of each target are 1/4", 1/2" 3/4" ... out to 1.5" in diameter. The small center diamond permits precise centering of a dot or crosshair center, and the vertical and horizontal lines help with aligning the scope reticle (and level check). There is a lined section at the bottom to record shooting details. This is in a .pdf file that should be printed at 100% size on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet. I mostly use white cardstock (Walmart) to provide more than adequate stiffness. The downside is that inkjet printed targets tend to get blurry if left out in the rain.

I'll make the pdf file available to anyone who would like it.
Is there a way to post a .pdf file on RFC that can be downloaded?

I use either the USBR or IBS targets for group testing. With 5 bulls across, I can shoot up to 5 groups of the same cartridge on a given line. A few weeks back I needed to test my Bergara B14r to find a setting for the tuner with a new lot of cartridges. I used one target for 3 shot groups at different settings. The check marks show the 5 that I elected to test further. I then shot 3 groups of 5 at each setting on another target. I went with 40 and it's been shooting quite well. The targets are below.
