saw that Tactical Solutions was making a SBX barrel for the 77/22. Anyone tried one yet and report on accuracy?

for those that don't know, the SBX barrel is a design that is used with a suppressor. It's about a 12" barrel with a 5" "cage" permanently attached to the end of the barrel so when you thread on your suppressor, you are still at the 16" legal minimum, but not at 21+ inches if you have a threaded 16" barrel and another 5-6" can on the end of that.

I've got an SBX on one of my 10/22's but haven't really bothered to shoot it much at a target. it's plenty accurate for cans though. :) I was debating on having my 77/22 threaded or just get the SBX barrel and keep the stock barrel stock.

It's not a Ruger but I made my own conversion with a CZ 455. I took a 20" American barrel and cut to 10.5 inches and threaded the muzzle. I made an aluminum shroud and permanantly attached it. The I.D. takes various .22 suppressors of mine. The permanent shroud makes the legal length of 16" and when a suppressor is installed only adds a 1/4" to the overall length so it's a really nice compact package.

Sbx

I have one on my 10/22 and like it. It is short enough that lots of ammo is subsonic and shoots about as tight a group as the factory barrel. Warning if your going to use a suppressor with it you want to use a non permanent thread goo like lock tight red on your cans end cap so when you try to loosen the can you don't remove everything but the end cap. Its tricky to reach inside the barrel shroud and recover the cap. The SBX is kinda ugly.
DubbleA The shrouded CZ above is a very good looking set up, very nice work. How did you attach the shroud, did you need to turn the barrel down any and how the heck do you drill the holes in pattern like that??
Would you change anything if you did another one? I feel a new CZ coming on.

Yes I did have to machine 2 areas on the barrel just to remove the taper. Made 2 aluminum bosses to fit over them and secured them to the barrel using steel pins. One is just forward of the chamber and the other just behind the muzzle threads. The shroud which is aluminum also was then TIG welded to the bosses using the plug hole method. The welds were then machined off and the area blended creating a clean "blind" look. It is considered permanent and can not be removed. The holes were done on a mill using an indexer. Any pattern can be done using it. Hope this makes sense.

Had mine out just once since installing the bbl, but it's plenty accurate with CCI 40g Std Vel. Tried my trusty Win Subsonics in it, and they patterned like a shotgun. They lost all oomph at 50yds. The CCI's stayed subsonic through my Sparrow though, and grouped around 1/2" at 50yds all day long. I need to get a case of those...

This rifle is named Ebola as it's death toll is similar to the dreaded hemorrhagic fever of the same name.
