What kind of trouble and what brand ammo are you using? My 22/45 is a recent purchase (1 month ago) and I've only had a chance to fire about 50 rounds just to see what it will accept. 25 rounds of CCI standard and 25 rounds of CCI mini mags all fired without a malfunction. I intend to use the mini mags in Steel Challenge and Rimfire Challenge matches but am glad it will fire SV (since I have a ton of it). I'm building up my supply of mini mags. The mini mags were right out of the box but the SV was degreased - I degrease the ammo before a match. I read somewhere that mini mags were the suggested ammo for the 22/45 but I have no idea why that is and why the pistol doesn't like SV.

I have a newer mk4. 22/45 lite. 1st range outing I ran 50 mini mags through it. Had bought it used but looked pretty immaculate box papers 2 mags etc. Cleaned and lubed it with one shot. Mini mags, no issues. Tried cci standard. No mas. First round fine second wasn't cycling fully jam. Tried afew different times. Not impressed with the pistol at all really. Got it as a suppressor hosts primarily, never been much for ruger. Ran older buckmark ran everything fine. I'll try more mini mags but not very confident. Pretty pistol and all that...

I can tell you based on running my sparrow on several of my .22lr pistols that with the suppressor on they won’t cycle reliably with standard velocity ammo. In typical pistols high velocity ammo will work reliably and don’t typically go super sonic from typical pistol length barrels like my 5.5” 1911or my 6 7/8 slab side mk2 22/45.
Without a suppressor they both work reliably with standard velocity like cci sv..

I’ll tell you a trick I was given, lock the bolt in the open position when not in use for a few weeks and use mini mags for the first 500 rounds before passing judgement. Same goes for 10/22’s and AR 14’s.

ps
Edit to say

you can buy a reduced power spring or buy a replacement spring and clip a few coils off your return spring till it reliably cycleswith standard velocity.

VS: I have a older Buckmark (2010) that would shoot anything I ran through it. It's my primary for Steel Challenge and Rimfire Challenge. I bought the 22/45 as backup because of a situation I think I created.- nothing worse than paying a match fee and have the weapon malfunction I decided to mess with a perfectly functioning weapon with some Tandemkross products. Most worked as advertised. When I installed the Tandemkross titanium firing pin the fail to fire problems started. A deep cleaning of the firing pin etc is working - so far. Steel vs Titanium is an interesting debate and I fell for the marketing crap (light & faster) but the next fail to fire I encounter the titanium firing pin is going in the trash. I should have left the steel firing pin alone.

It seems to very depending on the manufacturer, product line and maybe even the lot. Mine hates Tac 22, is grumpy with CCI SV, but runs like a champ with Eley Target. All three of those list roughly the same muzzle velocity on the box.

It took me a while to figure it out. I changed extractors. I changed firing pins. I played with a chronograph. It is powder burn rate.

Different manufactures use powders. Two different different standard velocity product lines may be 1100 fps out of a rifle barrel. They can have very different muzzle velocities out of a pistol barrel. One is burning more powder sooner than the other. You also see a difference in residue. To me this indicates differences in pressure which translates translates to cycling.

With HV you get a little more pressure for better cycling. That is why your Mini Mags work. For what it is worth most HV stays sub sonic out of a pistol barrel.

I’m surprised to hear about all the people with issues with this combo of gun and ammo. I have two MKII 22/45’s and two MKIV 22/45’s and all have eaten anything I load in them. The first gun I ever bought was one of the MKII’s and it’s reliably eaten well in excess of 50,000 rounds of the cheapest ammo around until I got my suppressor and started using SV ammo only.

I have over a thousand rounds of SV only in my MKIV 22/45. It has the Volquartsen trigger kit. The last 500 or so have been TAC 22. Kinda greasy, but probably helps keep it lubed. I use the TAC 22 in all my autoloaders as they function flawlessly with it. My newest purchase, a 10/22 LVT has only had TAC 22 and is at 433 rounds without a failure.
