I got a Stith stock for my Anschutz 54.Hope to have it ready in a few weeks. Also picked up a Fudd windage top.Haven't used it yet either. The barrel on the Annie shoots very well but I may still get a Lilja for it.Gonna get a BR stock for the Remington 541 I picked up.I already added a Shilen barrel and Hoehn tuner for it.Look forward to shooting it.Currently not interested in a Sporter rifle but maybe later. With 10th and 11th graders I'm not gonna go wide open.Got college to think about.I'll finally attend a match this spring and will be shooting against some tuff competition.Still gotta get some better windflags. So,what's new for you guys this year?

I'm actually going to join in the BR email matches! I've been threatenin' for long enough.

I'm building my 10/22 bench stock from my old Fajen Thumbhole. Out to be a decent stock. I'm also going to replace the barrel with a GM. It's sporting a Butler Creek at the moment. And that ought to do me.

I have a new Edge stock for my 40X that should ship the first of next month. I also just got a couple of Edgewood rear bags in the mail, and filled 'em with heavy sand. They are nice and very stable. Before long I'm not going to have any excuses for poor shooting:D I've stocked up on match ammo for the season. I don't think I'll be running out for a while, anyway. I'll still buy more if good stuff comes along though--it's a sickness --hehehe Other than that, the rifles are the same--no need to fool with 'em since they're shootin' better than me. The Edge stock should make the 40X a little more user friendly but I don't think it'll make it any more accurate. I just hope it shoots as well with the new stock. Presently it's setting in an HS Precision varmint stock, and it does ok. But, even though the forearm is wider than a standard hunting rifle, it doesn't ride the rest as well as a true BR stock. It's shoots great groups though! I'm looking forward to warmer weather and let the matches begin. Good thread, Pinball.

I am thinking of getting into some .22 compitetion but don't have enough money to fund all my hobbies, I am 16, so I am thinking about shooting in a sporter or equally inexpensive class but am currently too involved in competitive archery to take on another sport, I am going to the winter games on feb 12, wish me luck. Now if only I could make my bow as accurate as my .17.

I'm going the other way, sold my Turbo and my ULA sporter. Am gonna sell my Suhl also (pm me, early bird gets the worm!).

All that will be left is the Hall/Lilja that Time shoots, and my yellow Anschutz 54. I'm gonna stop rifle hopping and settle down with "new yeller" and shoot that rifle all year! Really, I swear I am. I'll keep my left handed BSA Martini 'cause it's just too cool to sell. GG

Well, I've got a new Suhl heavy gun that is having the kinks ironed out for me. Next on the agenda is to have another sporter built.

Like GG...thought I'd never hear myself say that...I'm reducing gun inventory. I'm going to sell a sporter or two and a Suhl also. So, after GG sells his, give me a shout if you're looking for a Suhl ready to go to the bench.

Hey Pinball

Which Stith stock did you get for your 54? I'm thinking real hard about ordering one of his "Predator" stocks for my old Match 54. As long as it is shooting as well as it does in the factory wood I may not switch it out but I sure like the looks of the Predator. I'm thinking of mounting an Fudd tuner too but here again, I hate to mess with it while it is shooting well. (If it ain't broke..........) Mine has the front sight dovetail as an integral part of the barrel (this is the extra heavy long barrel) so it will have to be turned off prior to mounting a tuner.

Whats new this year is ...................

ATTITUDE...........

last year it seemed to be work, work, work.........

this year I'm going to make sure that I get plenty of time being "the nut behind the butt" and doing some shooting!

Oh and just to motivate myself I got a Sako Range just before Christmas.:D

I'm not even thinking of cutting it off, Gary. What I was referring to was the 1/4" high or so male dovetail at the muzzle that is there to attack the front sight. On some guns these are mounted to the barrel with screws - on this one it is part of the barrel.

My 64 has the "lump" at the muzzle with the dovetail grooves in it & I have a Harrel (or Hoehne?) tuner mounted to it with no problem. The 54 is a whole different lashup.

Claybuster,
I got a stock like the one below except it's walnut.Don added 2 maple strips on both sides of the forearm to get it 3inches wide. It's at my smiths now but when I get it finished I'll post a pic for you.I can't decide whether to paint it or not.I have always liked wood but may have to spring for a McMillan for the Remington.

Well, I've got lots of plans. One is to shoot the new barrel on my Time until I've learned it. I've only shot it in one match, and ended up winning with it. But I still don't know it as well as I should. I recently bought a 40x and had Dave Burton put a new Benchmark barrel on it. It's now at Lamon Loggins' shop, waiting for him to work his magic on it. Going to be a fun year.

Thanks Kent! That's sorta the way I'm leaning right now.But I saw the pic of the sporter rifle GG got from Bill Myers and loved it.You could see the grain running thru the paint.Looked really sharp.

Forester, would you share some info about your new barrel?Where to buy, reputation etc.Never heard of them before.Thanks.

Jim,

If anybody can make it shoot, Frank can. Or he'll find out why.
My Winchester was shooting about 1/2" at 50yds and we just cleaned up my crappy bedding job and played with the tuner and got it shooting in the low .2s. Surprized the heck outta me. I just figured it'd end up being a "serious" plinker, not accurate enough to consider it a real bench gun.
One thing about it, with the bright competition orange paint with metallic silver stripes and "Marvin the Martian" on the buttstock it sure gets some attention.

Pinball, Benchmark is a relatively new outfit. The guys name escapes me right now. He bought the equipment from the now defunct Bison Barrels shop and is producing some really good shooting rimfire barrels. Scott Hamilton, Bill Myers, and Phil Deese are some of the well known shooters who are using Benchmarks. And of course you can't forget William Poff, who shoots a Bison made with the same equipment. Scott convinced me to try one of the reverse taper Benchmarks. Mine measures .800" just ahead of the receiver, and tapers up to .950 at the muzzle. Lamon is re-bedding the rifle now, but just as soon as I get it back, I'll let you guys know how it shoots. And by the way, the barrels are a steal at $185.

Forester--
Thanks for the info. Now maybe I need to get one of these barrels and set it up, so I'll have one when I need it, or maybe two. Sounds like you've got things well in hand for the season. I look forward to shooting with you again soon. Lamon will have that 40X hummin'. Where do I contact someone to order a benchmark barrel? I did a search after I talked to Scott at the barn, and came up empty?

claybuster,
I wonder what a paint job like that would cost?I don't even know what type of paint it was.Maybe GG will see this and help me out.

Forester,
Thanks for the reply.Coming from you that's all I need to know except like Kent, where do you get them?Is there a web site?
