I recently bought a case of SK Standard+ ammo for inexpensive informal shooting. I used to compete in !R50/50 matches and started getting low on the Eley Match, that I used to compete with. Not wanting or needing to spend $18 a box for ammo for informal shooting, I decided to give SK Std + ammo a try. It was good when I shot SK ammo when I first got into BR shooting 25 years ago. Well, it's still good. I went to the range early this morning and the temps were in the low 70s. It was humid and the winds were light but a little switchy. I shot over wind flags at 25 yds to evaluate this ammo. The first box of ammo was shot in my Eck Custom Turbo Sporter using a Weaver 6-24X set at 24X. I shot a 250-24X with no flyers in the box. Next I used my customized 10/22 (Feddersen barrel, Kidd Trigger etc) with a Clearidge 3-9X scope set at 9X. I shot a 247-14X with one flyer (target #11) that I couldn't attribute to shooting conditions. That shot was a 9 at 12 O'clock.
One flyer in 2 boxes is something I can live with. My Turbo sporter was cleaned before shooting and I shot 5 warm-up shots which can be seen in the upper left between the Lapua and Hall action. The first shot was a bullet diameter low and the rest made a one hole group. All sighters were 10 with only one not an X. The 10/22 target was good but not as impressive, but then it doesn't have a 2 oz trigger like my Turbo and 9X vs 24X made sighting a little more difficult for my 68 yr old eyes. I wasn't just impressed with the quality of this ammo, I was gobsmacked! I'm glad I bought a case of it. Below are the photos of the targets shot today.
ps These targets were shot at 25 yds because, truthfully, I wasn't expecting this kind of consistency and I wanted to test the ammo an not my wind doping. My hold-off for wind condition was not more than the edge of the 10 ring to get an X, when the wind was blowing at about 5-10 mph. The one target that is not an X on the target sheet shot with my Turbo sporter (#24), I got caught in a sudden wind shift (from a calm to a left to right) and the shot went where I expected.
