Have the chance to pick this up. Comes with a Gray Ruger plastic box. Only the 22lr cylinder. Looks to be a really clean 3 screw.

What would be the age? How much should I offer? Can you buy an aftermarket 22wmr cylinder?

Any other info would be appreciated!

No #1, that particular gun came in cardboard box. No #2, yes you can track down a 22 mag cylinder for that era. The early Rugers with mag cylinders were called Convertables, but the 3 screw Super Single cylinder will work also. Know nothing about new model Ruger SAs, that where my Ruger Smarts end. Price looks to be in $400 range.

I have found the difference in bore diameter of .002” has no effect. I have exactly same gun and couple older. I put Super Single mag Cylinder in it and it worked fine without any fitting. I do horde Ruger cylinders and sometimes have to go through them to find one that will work with out fitting. I have brass rod turned especially for OM single -6s.

Ruger would not (and still will not) retrofit a 22 mag cylinder to these early guns because Ruger has always considered the .222" bore size to be too small to safely fire 22 mag rounds. On the other hand, we Single Six fans like that true 22 LR bore size on these 50s guns. That's generally considered a plus for shooting 22 LR.

Your call, but I'd leave a 50s SS as is and just enjoy it. If you really want an Old Model with the later convertible extra 22 mag cylinder, they are still around. Picked this '65 vintage convertible last month for $360, with box and papers and extra cylinder. They generally run a bit more, yes, but there are still some good deals to be had.
