I am looking at either the Dot or the Duplex version.

Sightron Duplex reticle

Sightron Dot reticle

http://info.sightron.com/Riflescopes/SII-Series/SII624x42D/

Would most likely be put on a .22 lr. or a .17 HMR for 50 and 100 yd. target only.

I have Leupolds.....VX2 and VX3s and Vortex Vipers....Viper PST 4-16 EBR-1 MOA reticle....Viper -HS 4-16 Duplex reticle ...And a Viper 6.5-20 BDC reticle.

The Leupolds all are fine duplex reticles.

And I have one Weaver Classic V24 with the varmiter reticle.

I listed all my scopes because that is what I will compare the Sightron to.

I really hate thick crosshairs but wonder if the dot reticle would be too fine and what would I compare the Sightron duplex thickness to what I have?

How good is the glass and the tracking compared to what I have.

I know for the price you can't compare the Sightron equally to some I already have.

I hope I didn't complicate this too much

Just need your opinions mainly on the crosshairs thicknesses and the brightness and the tracking.

Thank You Very Much In Advance :bthumb:

Hi Jeff,

I don't have an example of Sightron's Duplex to show you, but it is slightly finer than Weaver's Dual-X by the specs... .12" (SII) vs .13" (V16) at 16x at 100 yards.

I do have a couple pics of their dots, one from a SII 12x and the other from an SIIB 12x. The specs say that the dot is .5" at 12x at 100 yards, so it should be the same physical reticle as the specs say that the dot is .25" at 24x. The specs say that the wires are the same between the SII and SIIB (.02" at 100 yards), but I've found that not to be so as the SII has considerably thicker wires, however the dot is the same.

I have the duplex version mentioned on my Remington 40X in 7.62NATO and I really enjoy it. The reticles are a bit thicker than I'm used to, but that's not the scope's fault. I usually shoot target dot or silhouette dot.

I'm very pleased with the scope considering its cost. It doesn't upset me moving from my Big Sky scopes to the SII.

I used SWFA's price matching to Big Supply Shop's price and saved some money.

I see.....I was reading too fast.....so if the Sightrons duplex is that fine then I think I would like it better than the dot........should be close to Leupolds fine duplex?

What ya think ?

JEFF:D
I don't think that it's quite that fine, but then with the way that Leupold rounds up the values on their subtension chart, you'd be better off getting a Leupold technician to give you the actual physical reticle size of their fine duplex and then we could calculate more accurate subtension values for a certain magnification using the known field of view from a specific Leupold scope.

Is the varmiter in the Weaver V 24 finer than the dual -X ?

JEFF:D
Much finer...

Clearidge's Duplex/dot aka Weaver's Varminter...

Hey Jeff that is really great deal. looks good too...hope it works for you. :bthumb:

I don't know if I can take it any more: first the BRJ, then the 3 CZ rifles, then the Vortex and Leupold scopes...now dangling another scope in front of me...

Please send me some Money seeds...so this poor guy can have some too. :p  :D :AR15firin :AR15firin :AR15firin

"Barrel Whip" now that had me rolling...LOL....the other is a little high...working on that.

Hi I6turbo,

The subtension for Vortex shown is at 14x and the reason they do that is likely because it's the power in which the mildot reticle is correctly sized. Also, this is listed in mils.

To convert... 1 mill = 3.6 inches at 100 yards... so multiply .05 mil by 3.6" and it equals .18 inch at 100 yards on 14x.

To get the subtension at 20x, you would divide 14 by 20 and then multiply that by .18" which would be .126" at 100 yards.

Since that particular Vortex only goes up to 20x, to compare it to the Sightrons reticle specs at 24x we would need to convert one or the other to the same magnification. If we convert the Sightron to 20x, the formula would be 24 divided by 20 and multiply that by .08" (the Sightron's subtension at 24x). The result is .096".

The Sightron's reticle is considerably finer. .096" vs. .126" at 100 yards on 20x.
