A friend with some land invited several of us over to shoot our 22s this afternoon. I shoot a Savage Mark II, with a Boyd AT1 stock and a Mueller scope. I don't shoot as well as the rifle. I also have pretty severe arthritis and deteriorating disc disease. Trying to align my eye with the scope was awafully painful using sandbags. I could not approach the capabilities of the rifle. One of our friends let me have his Rock BR front rest. Game change. I could sit straighter, align my eye and scope and even get the right cheek weld on my adjustable riser. Suddenly, I was ringing steel discs, first the 2", then the 1" at 50 yards. Certainly, I was happy to shoot well with minimal pain, but even happier to have such a generous friend. People outside our shooters community might be surprised to find out what great people we have. Thanks, Bob.

Your friends + Rock BR= winning!!

It’s funny how, once you ignore the groupthink of super low mounted scopes and all the rest of how Grandpa shot back in the day, shooting can become easier.

Nothing wrong with a higher mounted scope, a sitting position that doesn’t resemble prone, maybe some high bags or a rest, and a relaxed shooting session.
