My buddy had Shilen rig in 308. I coined it silk panties. Smoothest gun I've ever shot and accurate, it just left a smile on you face.

If you know how to slug it it will tell you a lot about it’s potential although back then doubtful it was taper lapped.

 

I'm getting an inference that the barrel is probably not as good as current ones due to advances in technology and technique. Oh well. I currently have a .22 RF built on a stiller action, Bartlein barrel on a Manners stock, so that should do me fine.

 

Northland sells them for $310. The straights are 1.200" outside diameter. Shilen's barrels have 4-groove ratchet rifling with a taper lap. Great barrels that usually shoot extremely well.
