I have an old model 41, targetmaster. Looked it up on the web, they were made between 1936 thru 1939, with serial numbers, from 001 thru 307,000. I have taken mine all apart, and have not found the serial number yet. Has anyone gotten any ideas where they might have hid it?

The idea of not having a serial number crossed my mind. At the time of manufacture, I did not think that they would be serialized. After looking at the website, and found out they had serial numbers 001- 307,000, it made me so curious, I had to know!
So I took it out, and very carefully examined it. I found it, front, left, and bottom, of the forearm, on the barrel. It was so lightly stamped, I had to get a magnifying glass to read it clearly. Or does this mean I am getting old??
Thanks for trying to help, Mike, I appreciate it!!

Remington model 41 targetmasters were not required to have a serial number. The number that you found is a production number. i have several of these rifles and they all have production numbers. i believe that remington was not required to put serial #'s on there guns until 1967, but dont quote me on this. there should be a letter under "model 41" indicating the year it was produced. hope this helps

The serial number 1612XX is clearly stamped on my 41-P (barrel code of March 1937) just to one side of the bottom of the barrel just ahead of the stock. Since the 41 has the barrel and receiver machined from a single piece of steel, there is no need for a SN on the receiver. I'm afraid I can't say whether the standard 41's had a SN or not.

serial #

All 41 Rems. I have seen have the number on the bottom of the barrel usually just ahead of the stock. I have seen a few with the number on the bottom but back far enough that it is under the stock fore end.
One I bought at a gun show cheap I had to use a bronze brush to get the crud out to see the number.

I have one, the first year and a half or so didn't have serials, the rest did. But... since the receiver and barrel are one piece, it is in a weird location. Take the gun out of the stock, look on hte bottom of the barrel just about where the stock ends, and you'll see it... if yours is numbered. Mine is 4120x
