Savage revel

New member here. I’ve never felt compelled to post an opinion on a new firearm, yet here I am. Purchased a revel last month and have made multiple range trips since and I have to say it’s been the most fun I’ve had with a new rifle in a long time. I have two Henry’s as well but if I want to shoot lever action I seem to gravitate towards the little savage. I’m always a bit skeptical of any new gun to the market especially with just a one year warranty but after handling, took a chance.

Pros:
Clean wood to metal finish. Walnut is sub grade two on mine with what I think is a smooth oil type flat finish.

Mount is very natural with good comb height and length of pull for my frame. Very natural sight picture with the factory irons.

Balance and feel is exceptional to me. Good forward weight with the medium sized barrel gives stability and just has a feel of a well put together piece. General high quality look and feel.

Action is super smooth and gets even better after each outing. Doesn’t take a back seat to any lever action I’ve had.

Tapped for optics if desired.

Takedown feature is a game changer to me two pins out separates in seconds. Very intuitive. Think AR style.

Mine has not been ammo picky. Five various brands and specs. Won’t cycle shorts but that’s to be expected. Cci standard were most accurate for me with mini mags sniffing tail. Roughly 800 rounds to date.

Large loop is standard and shaped narrower at the front for easy index or middle finger rapid cycling. Sort of a tri oval shape if you will.

Multiple safety features. Good for children maybe not so much for me.

Cons:
A slight movement sometimes where forearm meets receiver. Easily fixed with a thin piece of fabric laid in.

Seems like the lever swing is a bit longer then I’m accustomed too. Not really impactful in any way but wanted to mention.

Multiple safety features. Just preference for me to have the cross bolt only.

Apologies for the long (first post) that to the moderators, should be worth at least ten to get into the “shopping” group! These are obviously just my personal experiences but it seems savage designers really went back to their roots and wanted to reintroduce something with classic styling but more contemporary features.

For those interested Guns&Ammo magazine August issue has a review on the Revel. Gives a M.S.R.P. for the Classic of $439 and the DLX at $539. Looks like a matte finish { cough, choke, wheeze} but looks like as nice walnut stock. Price not bad for these days plus being a lever. Read another review a while back and it sounded overall positive. A 22 mag version lights my fire.

Wanted a 22 lever action, went to buy a Henry a few months ago and LGS had a use Revel on the rack. Felt great so I purchased it. Never will know why but the first owner had installed a very short front sight and it shot 8-10" high at 15 yards?? Replaced it with the correct height and is now minute of squirrel at 25 yards and a very enjoyable plinker.

I have a 22lr classic, and man, I love that thing!
It has been 100% reliable with any ammo I've tried, and I agree the balance and feel are excellent. As soon as I held one I knew I had to have it!
I've noticed the foreend get a little bit loose as previously mentioned, and here in Canada there's really no scope base options available. And if you decide to take it down all the way, make sure you seat your Allen key securely in the screws on the receiver cover, I kinda' buggered one taking it out.
Those would be my only negatives, but last time out I was shooting reactive ground targets offhand at 25 yards with the sights and it was a blast!
I would recommend one without hesitation.
They're on sale at Cabela's right now for $590 CDN ($430US) regular $640. The DLX is $780 CDN ($570US)
I got mine for $500 CDN because they had scratched the receiver when putting away the display guns at night. A little Sharpie and you can barely notice it!

I know this makes me the old curmudgeon and I am leaning toward getting a Revel in 22mag. But I just got to say that price of $340 makes me sick. This is what the gun market has come down to. Buyer looking to save $50 over the completion. Image what the price would be for a steel frame Revel? Keep in mine that crappy rough action aluminum frame Ruger Wrangler price vs the smooth steel Super Wrangle with adjustable sight and 2nd cylinder. For the steel alone? Peanuts. If the idea was weight, the Revel is already heavy. If they cared about the weight there would be 1/2 magazine and 2" shorter barrel. I am ok with that, the market likes a heavy manly gun. Just dont tell me Savage wanted to keep the weight down.

Sorry but that $340 just set me off.

No need to apologize. I’ve never joined one of these forums until yesterday because I really liked the rifle and I’ve lurked here maybe since it’s inception. I joined only because I like the varying perspectives Ive read and have learned a lot. I usually don’t take chances on new pieces but hell the older I get the less I care. So far its as good as the the two Henry rim fires I have. If it stays true great if not away it will go. It was less expensive then the Henry’s. Doesn’t matter though. Your point about quality of material is absolutely relevant compared to what I prefer but that’s expected I think today. I shoot a lot of shotgun field sports and my best guns are three Turkish made Cz’s (huglu) and dare I say two subs (410 and 28) yildiz. I had a beretta silver pigeon three inches high left on upper and four inches low right on lower and beretta told me that was in spec. Sold the next day full disclosure to the buyer. I have two browning citoris that I love but both have been back two times in the last six years. The Cz redhead premiere target and 1012 inertia semi 12 gauges have six and five thousand rounds respectively with nothing but general cleaning and fresh grease. Save weight where it doesn’t really matter and steel where it does. Oh and I’m just in my mid fifties and my wife says I’m a curmudgeon too! Never really liked her much….

Looked at the Revel (Savage's word play on Lever) at Bass Bro shop. The clerk had to retrieve it from the stockroom and wouldn't remove the lock, so I couldn't test the action. Wood to metal fit was very good, finish was also good. Their price point was not a good deal, but I know they have plenty of buyers for their guns. Our Cabela's became a BPS and while it was still Cabela's I found a Marlin 39 Peanut on the used rack for $199 and couldn't believe it, so I asked if the price was correct and it was. It's in my safe!
