i was hoping to hear good results. anyone else have a comment? boltaction:D
I only saw one at a local Gun Show, and I believe they are a single-shot rifle. If you want to buy a Savage Rifle then you might look on some of the Gun Auction sites for an old Savage Model 340 in .22 Hornet. I own a Kimber Hornet and I get < .750" @ 100 yards with my handloads. It has a very light trigger pull which has a lot to do with it's accuracy. CZ's are also great guns and Remington has a bolt action in .22 Hornet they are currently importing.

I have had mine for about a year now. Only problem was an extraction issue that savage took care of start to finish in less than 2 weeks. I have a Mueller APV on it, and with hand loads get 1/2"-5/8" 5 shot groups at 100 yards on a regular basis. Is a Winchester M70, of course not. What it is is a very good value. The CZ is more like a regulear centerfire in the way the action is built, but I have not heard of an accuracy advantage. I got the gun, scope and reloading stuff for less than the cost of the CZ alone.

New gun are away intriguing. :yippee:

But.......

My CZ-527 Lux gives me 1" groups, and all I had to do was put on a Leupold 2-7x28 Compact scope, I had laying around.

I dunno how much the new Savage costs, but I bought the 527 new in 2005 for $450. The shop that sold it to me had it for awhile - I guess not many liked the Lux style.

My CZ527 was purchased used for $500 OTD, with a couple of different scopes its always stayed under a inch at 100 yards with Win. 45 gr.HP's, Hornaday 35 gr vmaxs will average closer to 1/2 inch at 100 yards and it looks pretty good too. Let your pocket book be your guide!

I have one that I cut and threaded for suppressed fire. It shoots around 3/4" @ 100. Like Terrier experienced, I have had extraction issues, but haven't sent it to Savage yet to be fixed. I'll send you a PM with some more of my impressions.

Extration issues after about 15 shots whether suppressed or unsuppressed. Simple to remedy and went away for the next 15-20 after using a boresnake.

any other comments on this gun?will delete in a few days. thanks for all the interest.

Why delete? This is good info for the "Hornet's nest". Perhaps the forum leaders could be convinced to provide a separate "Hornet" section of the forum. From doing a Hornet search, there certainly seems to be enough interest...:bthumb:

I bought a Sav40 Hornet back in late Sept.
It is affectionately referred to as 'The Slingshot' . . .
It had an extraction problem.

Savage issued a call tag for UPS to pick it up at my home.
Savage called after examinations and apologised for the rifle; that it should have never got past their QC. They sent me a new one to my home along with 50 fired cases- Rem Premier and Hornady.

Turn around trip was 3 weeks.

I load it down as I wanted a reloadable 22WMR.
First field groups were fired yesterday shooting prone with 9.5 grains of LiL'Gun and Hornady 40 gr VMax yielded .896" @100. Not bad for a fun gun.
I tuned the trigger springs and she's good to go. The action is very tight indeed, but a generous amount of graphite and continuous working will alleviate that.

I've very pleased with mine and their service . . .

I know a few .22 Hornet shooters here that would glad to point out that the .22 Hornet was a very accurate round when fired in the right platform. In fact, before the Triple Deuce (.222 Remington) was born in the 50's, the .22 Hornet was a very popular round with the paper punchers.

I know you were talking about your particular rifle above, but just thought the sentiment should be pointed out - some .22 Hornets are extremely accurate. If you would like some more information on .22 Hornet loads, seek RFC member Vincent and his past posts on the Hornet - he is one .22 Hornet afficiado.:bthumb:

22 hornet

my pre war mod. 70 loves the 45 gr. nosler and strong dose of 296 and bench rest primer. the bench rest primer make big difference in this gun. longer or hevy bullets not so good. but the nosler is all i need in it anyway. bunch of pry. dogs at silly range can tell you all about it. well there friends can!!!! :D have fun trying different combinations, you will find one that works for you. Houston, I've been told my folks who know more about them than me that this was a Prestige Model, based on the wood and the butt pad which is a basket weave type design. I really don't know, but you're correct its figured nicely from fore end to butt, has a serial no. you can't forget and more importantly to me shoots really well. I'm past due for a lemon from CZ I guess, but so far all of mine have shot well.

60 grainers aren't apt to do too well from the 1:12 twist at the velocity you're likely to get, I'd be more apt to look at 35-45 gr. bullets. The Hornaday 35 gr. vmax shoot well in factory loads for me, right around 1/2 inch at 100 yards.

Rem cases
Rem 6 1/2 primer
13.0 grains of Lil Gun
35 or 40 gr V-max
Lee Collet Sizing die
Forster Benchrest Seating die

13.5 Grains of Lil Gun works just as well with a bit more oomph but fills the case and is too easy to spill while loading:eek: :D Just a practical thing for me to use 13.0. When you get older you learn that 50 fps here or there is meaningless when poking holes in paper!!!:p:bthumb: The nice thing is I can stick ANY 35 to 45 gr bullet over 13.0 grains and shoot under .7 MOA except the cheap Rem factory bulk bullets and they have worked out to about .9 MOA. Many cases are at or over 10 loadings so pressure is not a factor.

Rem 6 1/2 is kinda hard to find right now....use a good pistol primer if not.

CZ has that s-l-o-w 1-16 twist rate so the long 40 gr V-maxx is more of a .6 MOA bullet while the 35 gr is more of a .4 MOA bullet.

Cz has tight .2235" bore and the 35 Hornady is also smaller diameter than 40 gr by about .0005" (enough that this bullet can be hand seated if using the Lee Hand Loader while the 40 gr can not be).

I hope you can use what I have learned.:bthumb:

I like a Ruger 77-22 Hornet:

Since I bought it the .223 has set in the safe during Chuck season. Just a neat little rifle more like a rimfire than any other CF. I found that the 40 gr. V-Max didn't open up fast enough when the range got longer (175 yards). The 45 gr Hornady is the most consistant group wise and terminal part. I also use Small pistol primers the CCI BR-4 opened up groups, I don't load all that hot WW 296 powder, but there is a pound of Lilgun in the cabinet. I used a 45 gr. Sierra with Unique as a small game load for a while but the .17 M2 is so darm accurate the Hornet is saved for chucks.
