What would your opinion of which of these two rifles is the most accurate on average and which would be the better quality rifle?

Well, I have a CZ 452 in 17hummer that shoots well under 1 MOA, and three 452 .22s that will average or better .5" at 50 metres. A minimum of trigger and bedding work was all that was required in each instance.

I don't know the Savage/Anschutz 164, but as a CZ fan, acknowledge that though there are better guns on the market, IMHO, there are none better than CZ for the price.

Although the CZ's are great rifles, given the choice I would buy a late model SA 164. Accuracy wise there should be a slight advantage to the Annie, the Annie looks nicer, Annie has a FAR superior trigger plus you can buy a two stage for it if you desire. The reason I say a late model is that the late model has no rear sight boss, the curved bolt handle and the safety is disengaged in the forward position like the 1416 1516 1517 etc.

The Anschutz should best the CZ....but.....

I have five CZ 452 guns and two 1710 54 action Annies. There are days when any one of three of the CZs will give the Annies fits. My best series of consecutive five shot groups with a sporting rifle were shot with one of my CZS. My best 100 yard group is with another CZ. Considering the relative prices...I continue to be impressed with the CZs.

If money is no object at all...I would go with a 54 action Anschutz, but I will be paying a premium for a slight increase in average accuracy...if my experience means anything. And of course, the 54 based guns are supposed to be superior to the 64 based guns...at least they cost more. :D

But I have heard good things about some 164 guns, and make no mistake, the Anschutz is a fine rifle.

my S/A 164 averages about .25" ctc for 5 rounds at 25y. my CZ 452 shoots way tighter. the 164 is a cool rifle, but every CZ I have ever shot shoots better than my 164. I love them both for different reasons. for accuracy I would go with the CZ, for a neat 40 year old rifle the 164 fits the bill.

Its going to depend a lot on luck of the draw. Especially considering you are looking at a imported rifle that has lived a few decades under someone elses care.

If both rifles were new in the box, I would probably go with the Annie. Just for the simple fact its very easy to sell a Annie sporter in my area if I was not satisfied with how it shot. But considering the facts that its going to be almost impossible to find a New 164, I would recommend the CZ.

I have a S/A 141, which is virtually the same rifle as the 164, but with the upgraded stock, that looks a lot like the Weatherby stock. The rifle looked ment on the outside when I bought it, but from day one it would never shoot. I tried everything in my power. I considered re barreling it, but never went through. When I got the barrel estimate the gunsmith scoped the barrel. I was amazed to see the barrel was badly pitted and eatn up. The S/A 141 is Ok for small game hunting, but its not the best on paper.

Of the two, I feel the S/A has a better trigger after its been adjusted down (But the CZ can still give you a decent trigger for punching paper). But I feel bolt design of the CZ is a little better, if you can live with that crazy safety.

So in turn my CZ shoots rings around my SA141. But at the same time I have had a fair amount of 64 actions out shoot my CZ. I have two 54 action sporters (1422 and a 1712) and both of them consistently shoot noticeably better than my CZ. But considering they are about twice the price and have MUCH nicer triggers, I expect them too.
