Been searching for an auto loader 22. I keep coming back to this model and make. I like the idea of the 16 inch barrel. Familiar with the accu trigger. Not a big fan of but I di shoot good with it.

Any reason I should run from this decision ? Actually wanted a Ruger 10/22 target lite but the cost is almost double of this one.

I agree with jac54, the ***-Utrigger sucks. I have the 'basic' not the V-SR and the only thing that can be done beyond a thorough cleaning (there were bits of plastic all over incl inside the trigger group) and then spray with dry-silicone is to contact Gunshack in TX and get the Savage Varmint trigger spring for C-fires. Only costs about $7 and got my trigger down to about 2#, but it still goes CLUNK when the trigger returns after firing - sear reset, and feels stiffer than that. And that sounds weird with the hollow synth stock, some have stuffed it with rags, etc.
At 50 yds its lucky to get 1" groups with SK+. With 'Average ammo' it's more like 2" groups !!
BTW - I have a Savage B22 FV that shoots sub-MOA with SK+ (haven't tried more expensive stuff).
If I were you I'd spend a bit more and get a CZ512 or a Browning auto.

Shot the target lite today after mounting a 3x9 on and bore sighting. Must say I was impressed. 25 yds one raggety hole. Aligned and zeroed in scope shot a few gongers first. Then shot for a group at 50 yds little high but still one holer. Moved back to 75 yds no longer one holer but pretty darn close. I was shooting federal bulk pack factory defect box of 800. Going to fine tune and tweak until about dead nuts on @ 75 yards. For final sight in like to use 1/4 graph paper and color in 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch square. When group stays inside that 1/2 in at 75 yard. That it is ready for prime time bushy tails.

I'll admit the triggers take a little getting used to and they are not Timney....but i had NO problems with getting used to them.
For $389 this stock rifle will smoke any stock 10-22 in this price range and not look back.....but that's just my opinion.

I agree on the trigger. I was expecting a trigger like the MK II BV and very much disappointed when it felt like I was dragging it across sand paper - I could not only feel it but also hear it BUT it is an accurate shooter. I bought it to serve as a sub for the MK II in tactical matches - I was losing too much time racking the bolt and losing sight picture. Too improve it's accuracy and feel I added the Boyd at one stock and then my problems began - I could not get the mag to seat correctly. The 10/22 shooters just slapped in their mags and I had to fumble around. I spent numerous hours screwing with (trying to fit) the mag to a point where I almost was ready to scrap the Boyd and go back to stock. My mag changes are not as efficient as the 10/22 shooters but I really don't see the 10/22 I shoot against with any advantage - if I did I'd buy one. The MK II BV is more accurate than the A22 but not by much. What any rifle boils down to is "it not the quality of the bow and arrow - it's the archer". I'm not the best archer but I can get by.

Over on the Savage Shooter forum my friend (fasteddie) has done a lot of work on the A22 trigger. I think sadly he finally gave up and sold the rifle so you either accept the trigger as is or get rid of the rifle. Maybe i should have done that before I purchased the Boyd, but like you, I accept it as is. Savage should be ashamed of themselves because it could have been fixed on the assembly floor. How do I know that - one of their shop managers told me!!

After a recent experience I had with savage I say stay away from them. Bought a brand new B22 Precision that had horrible accuracy and would not extract. Sent it to savage for warranty repair, (cost me $71 to ship it, they would not provide a shipping label) was told it would be 3 weeks. Then they said it's "not repairable" and they would send me a new one. Many phone calls and an email to the CEO and it still took 11 weeks to see the new one. Not happy with savage and don't see me ever buying another one.

Hey all - Just an update on my A22 Standard - As Kirby said I've spent alot of time on it and after that last post #3 I had it apart again and lubed with PTFE grease and silicone dri-lube spray. The trigger was at about 2# +/- a bit, and I was out on the 28th. After almost every shot I had to push the trigger back forward to reset the Sear !! And partly due to the stiff trigger it shot like cra*. I'll admit I'm not great but the shots here with the CZ-455 show I can hit paper  The Fed Champion ammo was the 40g SV (not the 'new' 36-HP stuff) which shoots ca 3/4" in my B22. The second target is 25-yd 'tacks' shot at 50 with a variety of ammo, just for fun. Measurements are Ctr-to-Ctr of the Tacks. The Fed shot almost as well as the SK+.
Of course, YMMV
BTW Kirby, I still have it and the Varmint trigger-spring helped a great deal, before it was ca 4#. It's still really 'clunky' though and may end up 'moving away' :D The first target shows why . . .
