Is anyone doing conversions of the Ruger No. 1 to rimfire these days? I know a guy named John Korzinek used to do them, but he's either retired or died. I'm interested in having one done and haven't had much luck finding someone expereinced in making such a conversion.

As an aside, if you had one done, about how much did it cost?

Thanks.

Remington40x,
I have sent an e-mail trying to get the contact info for Larry Smart. It may take a couple of days to get a response, so please check back here. I think he is in (or near) Jefferson City, MO. He moved since I last worked with him. Hopefully, I can get an answer for you soon, and that he is still interested in tackling that project, I know he has done it in the past. I may have to send you the info in a PM or e-mail rather than in an open forum.

just found my notes. johnsons sporting goods, ask for zack the gunsmith #517-265-2545
Johnson's use to have a guy named Steve who did them, I believe the price was around $350.00 and this was w/ relining the barrel. Zack must be the new guy who replaced him. Steve intoduced me to him as his replacement last time I was there. I believe Steve went to one of the high end gun manufacturers to work.

Remington40x and others,
I talked to Larry Smart this morning and found that currently he is specializing in bolt action varmint and hunting rifles and is not doing much with single shots these days. Larry does excellent work and anyone interested in bolt guns can contact Larry at:
Larry Smart
Smart's Rifle Shop
30239 Hwy 133
Meta, MO 65058
Phone: 1-573-229-4895

Back to the Ruger No 1, 22 LR conversion. Larry recommended a close friend of his that specializes in a variety of single shot rifles, and top of the line restoration work on vintage single shots. Larry said Curt had done the 22 LR conversion in the past and would be worth contacting to see if he would still do the work today. His contact information is:
Curt Hardcastle
3839 West Pom Lyons Drive
Silver City, NM (New Mexico),88061
E-mail : curthardcastle@hotmail.com
Land Phone: 1-575-534-3839
Cell Phone: 1-575-574-8825

I can vouch for the quality of Curt's work as well, as I had him do a vent rib modification to my S&W Model 41, 22LR, 5.5" barrel back in the 1980's. Pics. of that work have been posted previously in the S&W portion of this forum, if you want to go back and look.
You can also see examples of Curt's restoration work on a Rolling Block at: www.treebonecarving.com/id5.html
Good luck
