Rossi RS22 Mag Issue

Just picked up today. Haven't shot yet, but the magazine seats too far and the bolt won't close unless I pull it out some. Will call Rossi Monday, but really don't want to deal with the hassle and expense of sending it back. Hoping it's a mag issue, but am afraid it's the stock. Any one else had the issue? Major bummer.

Shot fine. Don't understand why the bolt won't close with an empty mag inserted. Had I seen that in the store I would have thought it defective and not bought it. Lesson learned however about pre-purchase inspection.
It's the last-round hold open, and it's working properly.

After firing the last round, the follower will catch the bolt and hold it back.

Most semi-autos will do that, with a few exceptions.

Appreciate the input. I get last-round hold open. With this rifle I can't manually close the bolt with an empty mag. The mag appears too high and blocks the bolt. With ammo in the mag it's fine. It works so I'm not going to sweat it, but it doesn't make sense. Thanks.
That's normal as well.

The follower is going to stick up and hold it open unless you can reach in and push it down to let the bolt ride over it - like you do with a M1 Garand to close it.

I'll have to pull mine out and see if that's possible. If not, you need to drop the mag.

So I pulled my RS22 out and confirmed what I was telling you was correct, and it is.

In order to release the bolt from the locked-back position with an empty mag inserted, pull back on the bolt lever with your left hand while pushing down on the magazine follower with your right hand and ease the bolt over the top of the follower as you remove your finger.

That's the only way to close the bolt without removing the empty magazine.

Here's my RS22, with a few modifications -

I've done some plinking with it, but really would like to try some different match ammo to see what it's capable of.

Also added some weight in the buttstock and forend.

I may work on the trigger next, as it's about the worst of any rifle I own - and I've got some old rifles that ain't that great...

The RS22-TB that is on it's way to me is my first rimfire. I didn't want to ante up for a Ruger unless I decide .22LR is going to be a permanent thing for me. But for magazines, there are a lot of different sources and some claim their units fit both the Mossberg Plinkster and the Rossi RS22. If I need extras - which I likely will - I'll probably order the 3-pack from Rossi rather than risk the aftermarket.

I had that one and the Mossberg 702 Plinkster. They were both my worst rifles:mad:
Spent lots of money on magazines and parts. Never could get them to fire a complete 10 round magazine with out jamming.
Happiness was junking them and selling most parts on EB :)
Spent a little more money on Ruger 10-22 carbine or Ruger American 22lr bolt action. Have the Henry 22lr Lever Action. It's a jewel:)
I just bought the Rossi Rio Bravo 22lr Lever Action. I love them all:)
