Hello all, need some help with my 51-year-old heirloom Sears & Roebuck Model 1 - Winchester made 121 rifle my mom bought for me when I was 13 for Christmas gift back in the day.

Breech bolt is messed up when I pull back the bolt to eject the shell the striker head twists / rotates counterclockwise and I cannot send bolt home again unless I twist the striker head manually to line up with the stock. Arthritic hands no more strength to hold onto things.

So where can I go to find an older Winchester 121/141 bolt assembly parts or preferable new old stock? Found NOS cocking pieces but no Striker heads.

Suggestions on where to find one or video on how to tear apart and fix?

Trying to find the parts and then turn into gunsmith. One local gunsmith has said parts not available.

Need some help here to save my rifle to pass down to my kids that like weapons.

Thank you in advance for your time.

You can usually find used parts on Ebay or Jack First to rebuild them. For example:

Need to tear apart the bolt to remove the striker head? Found this posted from long ago. Anyone help out if this is correct? Posting pics to help out identifying bolt and seeing waht i seeing.

Anyone know what the pin looking thing is? Pull out or what as not much to grab onto.

Here is phrase from previous long ago.
I had to repair mine once. I never found any reference on how to do it but I did write the following info in my records.

  • To disassemble the bolt.
  • break out the "E" clip
  • Chuck the striker head in a vice and pull out gently while turning the head to unscrew it from the striker rod which is threaded.

- "E-clip" at Ace Hardware 5/32"

The disassembly looks pretty straightforward I wouldn‘t worry too much about boogering up the e-clip, as Lowe’s, Ace or pretty much any hardware stores have drawers full of them. Traptinkansas pointed you in the right direction with Jack First. Looks like he is well-stocked with parts, including the safety and striker rod. I would definitely replace that rod, as the threads look really messed up. Good luck with your project and let us know if you need more help and/or how it turns out.

First, make sure the chamber/barrel are really clean. If you have eliminated that, have a look at the extractor. If all looks well with that, look at a spent shell casing. See if it looks swelled, or has drag marks or scratches that indicate a burr or something preventing a clean extraction. All of this is just generic advice; I’m not familiar with these guns, and they may have the own particular quirks that others could advise you better on. Hope you get ‘er lined out!

Thank you for your reply. I learned something today so it is not a wasted day. So waiting for the gunsmith to let me know what he found on the rifle not extracting. Both the ejector arms looked non damaged. Dont know what else it could be. Bolt did go back farther than what i remembered while still holding onto the shel. At times it did go past the back opening per say but not always.
