With all due respect, that's not a "standard" M-1100 if the receiver is marked "magnum", as the OP stated.

Standard models wouldn't work with 3" magnum ammo due to the differences in the feed mechanism - not to mention shooting ammo too long for the standard model's 2-3/4" chamber.

If I remember corectly the lt 20 is the same frame they based the 28 and 410 off of.

Nice shotgun! Here in CNY Remington has always been a local favorite being in Ilion. Only issue was in the later 60s suddenly the 1100 started getting known as a jam o'matic. Especially by duck hunters. Nothing wrong with the 1100 though. It was another popular new kid on the block that came out around the same time. I'll give it some time to see if anyone can guess. Hint, I think everyone has it. See you later.

 

OK. Problem was WD-40. Guys started getting lazy spraying the guts of the gun down to "displace moisture" and just wiped the outside down. It would varnish and gum up the gas system. So most guys took it to a gunsmith who just gave it a good cleaning. Hence some local saying. " WD-40 is a gunsmiths best friend." Quick fix and money maker.

 

Having a recoil pad makes me believe the gun is a magnum 1100 20ga.

Yes it should. The barrels are interchangeable. Like using a 3" on a 2-3/4" receiver. The problem though is accidentally using 3" shells with the shorter chamber barrel installed by accident. That could be a BOOM!.

 

If the 1100 could do that. Then "why the 1187"?

The 1187 incorporated a device to compensate for pressure differences thereby allowing the use of different power level shells.

The 1100 didn't to my knowledge have this, so will lower power rounds function?

 

I said should. Theres a lot of 2-3/4 loads that are close to 3". The original owner had the barrel to use with a Mod choke. Probably for upland shooing where he didn't need the 3" Full choke. Just a guess.

 

Enjoy!!! I have a 12 gauge magnum way back in the safe somewhere. Mint. It’s killed a lot of clay pigeons and turkeys. 1975 or so. I bought it new. It’s a keeper.

 

My magnum would throw the empty out 4 out of 5 times. Low brass/trap loads. I had the shell catcher on it so I didn’t have to pick them off the ground. Those were the good old days.

I made a boo-boo I got the original barrel out of the safe and it decodes to April 1982. Old farts syndrome I guess.

I just picked up a 1964 (first year for 20ga) 20ga standard. It's the one made on a 12ga frame. I wonder if the magnum is made on the 12ga frame also?

And yes a quarter will drop through the gas ring on the barrel.

 

My understanding is the 20 gauge on the 12 frame is the most sought after and brings a higher resale price. If your up there in years and want something soft to shoot...

 

It's amazing how soft this shoots.
