Ranger Model 103-8

I recently became the owner of a .22 single shot rifle with the name on the barrel of “RANGER MODEL 103-8”. (Yes a “-8” whatever that means.) The operation is similar to a Winchester 67A in that a cocking knob is pulled back to fire. A blade front sight is inlet into the barrel rather than installed in a dovetail.

Does anyone know who the original manufacturer might be such as Harrington & Richardson, Mossberg, or some similar such company?

Harry,

That could be a MARLIN MODEL 100 (this is a link to the "rare" Gallery variation):
BigLoop, thanks for posting those photos. I picked up a model 100 last year, but was never sure if it was indeed a 100, since it had no markings except for Marlin Firearms roll stamp. It is identical to the photos you posted. Any doubt is erased.

Ol Harry, if you are able, would be great to see photos of your new acquisition when you are done with it. Congratulations on a rare find.

Ranger 103-8

Thank you guys, I believe y'all nailed it. The top and right side view of the bolt are identical to the Ranger, the rings around the cocking knob, identical. The differences I see are the rear sight elevator blade is different, but it may be a replacement. Also the Ranger stock is white "gumwood" instead of walnut, pictured.

Knowing it's a Marlin manufacture makes this rifle a worthwhile project to spend some time, work, and a little money to bring the Ranger back to life.

Thanks again, Harry.

I have a sears Ranger 103-8 and am needing a trigger guard. This model had a plastic guard and has a recess for the guard to fit into on the stock. I think this particular gun was manufactured in the 40's as it was my dads so I am fairly confident as to the age. I have searched the internet and called most of the Marlin "old" dealers, but have found nothing. The Marlin model 100 is the base for this particular gun. Need help.
