Just posted in "Rimfire Handguns" http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=547564
regarding a fellow looking for a firing pin for a pre-2000 Buckmark Firing Pin. Thought others with older buckmarks might be interested as well. Here is what happened.

I called Browning to order a few parts including a new firing pin for 1991 Buckmark. He said since they don't make them anymore they'd send me the new style slide with a new firing pin assembly. They only charged me for the price of a firing pin and shipping. When the parts arrived last week I installed them and realized the old style rear sight base is narrower than the new style and doesn't quite cover the opening on top of the slide. I called back to Browning, explained the issue, they said no problem and are sending me a new rear sight base no charge. My experience with Browning customer service was great.

The only issue that remains is related to the buffer. The 1991 Buckmark takes the black recoil buffer. The new slide and recoil spring take the new white buffer. They sent the new style buffer and said to use it, it will work, so I'm hoping they are right. It does not have the "button" on the backside like the black buffer does. The button fits in a recess in the recoil post, so the white one will just sit flush but won't be held in place by the button and I'm just wondering how that will work. Any one have experience with this?

Can't say enough good things about Browning Customer Service.

Be advised that there are not only 2 or more different sight bases but there are also 2 different rear sights which are not compatible with the the different era sight bases. Old rear sight is less than 1" long while new one is over 1" long. The 1" + one will fit either the late metal or late plastic sight base. The older less than 1" rear sight only fits the old sight base as far as I know. You can use which ever buffer you want it seems to make no difference according to Browning. The buffer is actually held in position by the sides of the slide on both sides not the cup in the post.
Also be advised that in some earlier BMs in which the new slide and FP is mounted will peen the breech if dryfired and in some it won't peen.

I have a 1993 Buckmark and have never changed any internal parts yet. I put a Tacsol sight rail on it and that is the only modification done to it.

If I am reading everything correctly and looking at the parts breakdown diagram of the Buckmark-- to replace the pre- 00 firing pin with the newer firing pin you need to get these parts;
firing pin--B5150002
firing pin housing, B5150001
recoil spring guide assembly--B5150065
buffer--B5150005
standard slide--B5150000
and possibly the sight rail base..Browning number would be what?? B5152608 plastic?? or B5152693
and might as well replace the
extractor--B5150454
extractor spring plunger--B5150455
and extractor spring--B5150456

Is this correct?? And are there any other parts that would need to be replaced ( assuming the other parts of the gun are in good working order) in replacing the old firing pin to the new firing pin version?

Be advised as of 6/4/2014 per conversation with Browning service dept. and parts that they will sell you all the parts needed, but you're going to have to buy them. They will not sell you the firing pin and give you the rest.

They are aware of the post nwdan posted and say they will not repeat that error. I called Browning Utah & Arnold Mo. Same story..

Be safe😎

I'm not hoping to get free parts from Browning just because they don't offer the old style firing pin.... I'm just asking for information... if I wanted to change to the newer firing pin, are these the parts I listed, that would be neccessary to change for the pistol to work correctly?
I think knowing which parts are needed for this, would help everyone who has the old Buckmarks.

I apologize dimeman if I gave you the wrong impression. And yes to your list of parts..You'll have to address the sight issue though.

No problem...
Just looked on the Browning website and they show the sight base with sight assembly-- B515608 is discontinued and to use;
B5150078 sight mount base, rear, aluminum, includes sight assembly

With all the pre- 2000 Buckmarks, wouldn't it be wise for Browning to remanufacture the old style firing pin, so the old BM owners don't have to buy a new slide, recoil assembly and other new style parts----that depletes the parts stock for all the 2000 and later BM's.

I don't know what is wrong with the pistol that it needs a new pin, I can only speak to mine. I bought mine in the early 80's when they first went up for sale, paid $114 for it, and have put several thousand rounds through it. The gun is fine mechanically, having completely broken it down when it turned 30, treating it to dry spray lube, cleanup of the sear and hammer surfaces to make trigger nicer, flipping the sear spring, and drilling the trigger for an overtravel screw. It pulls at a nice, clean 2lb. 4oz., and continues to shoot fine.

Well while ordering a complete new style slide assembly for my BM open racegun off MGW for when my current FP and slide assembly becomes unusable due to no more old style firing pins I took a quick trip over to Numrich Gun Parts. I discovered they had one original firing pin still in stock. Needless to say I could not build an order for it fast enough. Tried to order 2 but only one in stock and looks they they can't get any either after this. MGW did not have any eared new style slides in stock either. Ordered the set of new parts anyway. Going to install and tune the new style slide assembly then set it aside for later. Maybe I should take this last old firing pin and see if someone can duplicate it. Needs to be machined and then at least case hardened.

I ordered the new type parts from Browning to replace my old style slide.

firing pin housing, B5150001
firing pin--B5150002
firing pin spring--B5150003
firing pin retaining pin--B5150004
buffer--B5150005

a recoil spring guide assembly--B5150065
stainless slide--B5150036

extractor--B5150454
extractor spring plunger--B5150455
and extractor spring--B5150456

Since you can't find the old style firing pin:(, when I need to replace the slide parts .... I will have the new parts to do it.
