I have a Waffenfabrik Peters Stahl .22 conversion unit for the Browning 9mm Hi Power Pistol, it is labeled PSW 3. It is very well made with excellent sights and the slide replaces the 9mm slide with a slide with .22 LR barrel and includes a .22 LR magazine. It was given to me as a gift and came with no instructions but the fitting is very simple and straightforward. However when I started shooting it I used various brands of .22 LR ammunition , Winchester, American Eagle, Remington Golden and Thunderbolts and found none functioned perfectly and some better than others. The problem was failure to eject with failure to cycle and the slide staying open twenty to fifty percent of the time. Is anyone familiar with this conversion and what ammunition functions in it the best. The Browning pistol is a 1971 production year with no modifications.

Try some cci mini mags for a couple magazines and if they work to your liking run another 200 thru that conversion. I have always found cci mini mags to be a good break in ammo for a new rimfire. Try other ammo once you get it broken in and see what you're results are. Too bad you do not have another magazine to try as it could be magazine related your problems.

I want a gift like that!!!! I believe that is a rare conversion imported by Pachmayer in the early 80s and they are very hard to find. I've never seen one come up on ebay but I've seen adds in older magazine from the period. I hope you have a few magazines. You will not likely find any more. Those are like the Model 41 or CZ Kadet with a small reciprocating slide and the rest of the upper fixed in position. There is a youtube video of one being fired below. If it's all steel, I'd see if you can find some hotter ammo and give it a whirl. You obviously have plenty of spring power in the hammer and recoil spring. You may need to reduce the hammer strut spring weight on your gun to get it to cycle more reliably. I would not sell that kit :D

Peter Stahl manufactured a multicaliber 1911 that was marketed by Springfield and made conversion units for all kind of popular pistols.
They are not uncommon in Germany where a conversion in the same or smaller calibre does not require a new purchase permit.

I had one for my SIG P210 that worked very well and was more accurate than the original Swiss conversion. I had the extractor break and replaced it before PSW closed the doors for good, making spare parts impossible to find.

i dont remember using the conversion i have. Its been sitting in the safe since i got it.

Ive used the other conversions for some reasons and just try them out and then clean them and put them away.

to me, trying different ammo is like falling off a horse. but with ammo shortage or supply issues, you may not have a choice.

also, i would make sure its lubed and then go from there.

Conversions, in general, can be a B. its the nature of the beast. If you get one thats 100%, consider youself lucky.

good luck
