OPTICS PLANET ISSUE

I’m not going to bash a retailer but I would like everyone on this website to know the hidden details of ordering from OPTICS PLANET. These are things that they don’t post or even tell you until you call customer service with a problem (I use the term ”customer service” VERY LOOSLEY). I got a new rifle in recently and needed a set of rings for a scope I had for the rifle. I searched every local gun store and no one had what I needed in stock. Next choice, I went to the Optics Planet website and found the rings I needed. Didn’t want to wait a week to shoot the rifle so I put the rings in my cart and went to checkout. At checkout, Optics Planet offers “One Day Shipping“ and states “Next Business Day”. I placed this order on a Wednesday at 3:00 PM with the expectation that I would receive the rings on Thursday. The cost for One Day Shipping was $84 for a $150 set of rings. This seemed expensive so I went on the online “Chat” and texted with a young lady. I ask why the shipping was so expensive and she told me that based on my address, that would be the cost for Next Day. I thanked her and finished placing the order and paid the One Day Shipping fee. Today (Thursday) I got home from work and checked the mailbox (Optics Planet ships via U.S.P.S.) and found nothing but bills. I put a call into Customer Service with Optics Planet to see what the issue was. I spoke with James and after about 20 minutes of being put on hold and him checking to see what was going on and what he might be able to do, I was informed that any order placed with Optics Planet is shipped from their warehouse within a 24 to 48 hour time frame and that a shipping label had been created for my order at 2:00 AM Thursday morning. That was all the info he could give me. I informed James that this was NOT “One Day Shipping” and he said that I was right. I asked why Optics Planet even offered that as an option when it was obviously impossible for them to deliver a product in 24 hours and he said he would bring that up to his superiors. He then informed me that he could do nothing to reduce my shipping cost but he did offer me a 10% credit on my next order. I informed James that I get 10% offers from Optics Planet on a regular basis and I was not interested. He told me Thank you and Have a Nice Day. End of “Customer Service”. Don’t fall for the “One Day Shipping” trap, in my opinion, its false advertising and just a way to overcharge the customers for shipping they never intend to provide.

I ordered a scope from Eurooptics with 2 day shipping and got it 5 days later. Luckily I only paid $9.99 for it and not $80+. I think you should call back and talk to someone else. I've had to call Optics Planet a few times over the years and their customer service has always been great.

Well I have found them t be an occasional source of good deals, and unobtainable items. They are slow on shipping, and at this time of year, and with the current labor supply,, even slower.

Should they offer premium overnight shipping? Probably not. But a charge eof $84 for shipping a set of rings, probably deters most people.

This is kinda like getting mad at the dog , after you step in its poop after you let it out in the yard instead of taking it for a walk.

You should be kicking yourself, paying $84 for shipping a set of rings
Its Black Friday, its Covid, its Supply Chain , and its Optics Planet. There was no way that those rings were going to arrive the next day.

Update: they just screwed up my ring order Too! Karmais a …

My last experience with Optics Planet for an ammunition purchase was not a good one. I use The Optic Zone as my go-to optics / rings / mounts vendor. A number (probably a half dozen+?) orders filled without drama and I believe they are a RFC sponsor. Competitive prices in my opinion. I'm not a family member, don't know the folks, just my 2 cents worth.

Logistics tell me there is no way they could get it to you next day.

They should know this!
The customer might know this too! Next day delivery, come on. Really?

I placed an order with OP for reloading dies (last month) that no one else had. Guess what? They did not have (aka find) them. Never shipped. When they did become available at another source, I called and cancelled. No big deal.

Either a person understands that they often drop ship and what that means or they dont. Either a person can be patient or they cannot. I also ordered scopes (multiple) checked out the product, when junk. I did with a return. No problem. I felt CS has always been straight with me. Then I understand how they operate and live within those parameters. Crappy parameters, yes. Bottom line, I do not use them very often. More of a last resort. But; I will keep them in the mix. The prices are generally good.

You agreed to the terms of service, which you didn't bother to read. I don't understand how an adult wouldn't know by now that "one day shipping" doesn't include order process time.

If you have not tried eBay in a while, they really have been policing their sellers to provide top service. I would have to think twice as a seller, but; the customer is treated very well. Again, like anyplace else on the web, a person has to study up on the rules and procedures. You cannot make a phone call to get an education from eBay.

The more time one puts in the better deal or better service one can find. I guess it does not hurt to have a short list of preferd suppliers and occasionally pay a little more. I prefer to find the best deal if I am on the impersonal web, just saying there is some advantage to finding a trusted source or two or five and work with them.

I dont do much with Amazon these days. I may go there and then shop another 5 -10 minutes to beat thier price. Not always. I am not a special member.

Gun stuff

This is all gun hobby stuff, what's the big hurry?

If I had a Cat broke down, costing me big bucks everyday, that would be different.

Why did you even consider paying more than half the cost of the rings? Were you going on a trip and needed them that bad? $84 would maybe be a next day AM delivery rate at the most. I just couldn't justify those charges. As much as you wanted to shoot the rifle the shipping charge would have made me to start doing more internet searches. I have never had a problem from Optics Planet but also order from many different places to get what is needed.

Ordering from Optics planet is a crap shoot. They're always my absolute last place I order from.
Iv had some orders arrive in a couple of days and one that took 6 months, for an item that was supposedly in stock.
People need to understand this. :bthumb: That is thumbs for the info posted not OP. I use OP, but; I understand this.

"supposedly in stock" OK? This is the deal. Live with it, deal with it or buy else where. A person can always cancel. Or take the business else where. Simple.

This sounds pretty normal to me, especially around the holidays.

Most of the big online sporting retailers have been warning of five-day lead-times for order processing. If you want something NOW then you pretty much just need to drive to a brick and mortar store. $80 shipping is crazy, that will buy you enough fuel to shop two hours from home, although that doesn’t sound like a fun time. Just don’t be in a hurry around the holidays.

I always opt for the cheapest, most leisurely shipping that I can.

The only time I was ever blown-away by fast shipping was on one occasion from Amazon. I was buying a purse and clutch for my wife, both made by a small Italian company in Florence that I like. The items were at a warehouse in England. Estimated ship-time was several weeks. I watched them air-freight that stupid package straight to the west coast of the US, where I received it two days later. Blew my mind.

Yeah, I ordered a handbag for my wife from a designer in Paris as they dont sell the brand in the US. Had to do the whole Euro conversion thing that wasn't bad. Did get the bag, along with an import tax invoice for around $175 from Fedex for the bag. Not sure, but I think you are allowed to import up to $1600 a year from Europe, after that you get hit with a tarriff. I had ordered from Europe for other stuff during the year and must have passed the $1600. I think thats what happened anyway.

I've ordered readers from IZIPIZI out of FRance. 2 pair for $80 and free shipping. They are at my doorstep in 3 days via DHL. Amazing. No tarriff.

This happens a lot at work. Customers will pay an expidited shipping cost and complain when it comes weeks later. The key is yes, its one day shipping, but when is it going to be shipped? Two days after the order is placed? UPS Red got very expensive. Also, anything after 3PM probably wont be shipped that day. Sucks, but it is what it is.

Overnight shipping times are a crap shoot ever since the pandemic got in full swing.

In my line of work fixing machinery that does make money for the owners, the usual suspects that offer overnight shipping (FedEx, UPS, etc.) won't guarantee overnight shipping and won't give a refund if it shows up 1, 2, 3 or more days late.

FedEx, UPS, etc. just shrug there shoulders and basically say "eff you" if you make a delivery time claim.

Folks- you may have noticed that a number of posts have been deleted from this thread, as they were completely off topic & served no purpose with respect to the OP’s topic.

There is no rule against posting in an old thread, sometimes folks will comment on a topic and resurrect an older thread that has good information in it; bringing it current may afford others an opportunity to read and learn. In many cases, they have substantive content to add.

Please keep future comments on topic.

I have bought from them several times with no issues at all. Most businesses have a cutoff time near the end of the workday to get packages ready to be picked up by UPS, FedX or whoever
