Nylon 66 at LGS

Hi All,

I found a Nylon 66 at a LGS, they are holding it for me for a few days. While I have a number of old Rem 22's I have never owned a 66 so I don't know a whole lot.

I believe it from the letter codes it's a 1966 but not sure? (see pic)

It's dirty but not beat, is missing the front sight but the screws are still in the holes, has an old weaver scope on it.

Anyway, since in my neck of the woods these always seem to go for $250+ and this on is up at $199 i'm thinking of adding it to the collection.

Since I can't field strip it before buying is there anything I should look for that might be a deal breaker? Heard these are pretty tough little rifles.

Any help appreciated

Thanks, SP

In my opinion, the Nylon 66 is one of the best all around .22 rifles ever made. I bought my first one, an Apache Black, in 1968 and have put many thousands of rounds through it and it still shoots as well as it did when it was new. I've had a number of them since and each has been accurate and trouble free.

I have a copy of the Nylon 66 owners manual and Those Plastic Remingtons which is an interesting write-up on the history of the nylon rifles in .PDF format.

Both files are too large to post as attachments here but if anyone wants a copy of one or both of these files, send me an email and I can attach them to my reply.

66 tips

yes crack would be between the halves of the stock or on the butt if it was dropped or slammed butt first, also check the "cap" on the front of the stock. Do a basic strip and clean out the obvious gunk, don't forget the magazine and magazine tube also. you can clean the mag tube with a 9mm bore snake. NO OIL OR LUBE, put it back together absolutely dry. Front sight from Numrich for about $10, or check ebay.

Load 'er up with Remington Golden Bullets and go crazy. You CAN'T wear it out.

And that price is very good too. Nylons like that are $250 all day long.

Good job on this find.

OK, I pulled the trigger and brought home the 66 today. Took the cover off at the LGS and everything checked out, shiny bore, good stock, action seems fine although it is dirrrrrty. Obviously been sitting for a long time. Just look at the dust on the old weaver scope

What a cool little rifle, can't wait to clean it up and take it out. It kinda reminds me of the Crosman powerpmaster 760 I wore out in the 70's but still have. Feels like the same type of plastic.

Thanks everyone for all the help, I really appreciate it!

Here's a few pics of her, sorry for the bad quality.
