November 2024 CZ/BRNO 25/50 Yard Scoped On Line Benchrest Match

Let the November match to begin! I hope we all find some good range weather as winter creeps up on us.

Be safe, shoot straight, and have fun.
Best wishes, in advance, for a safe, joyful, and grateful Thanksgiving.

Guidelines, same as before:

CZ or BRNO scoped sporters, in a factory configuration - less than or equal to 9.0 lbs when weighed with the magazine removed. The CZ 452, 453, 455, and 457 Varmint models should qualify unless your glass and rings are more than 2 pounds. Pro Varmint, At One, and Varmint MTR models may be tough to get in under the weight limit.

Any safe trigger. Maximum magnification of 9x on the scope, for 25 yard targets. (Those with variable scopes set them to 9x or lower).

No aftermarket barrels or stocks - only CZ's original stocks and barrels. It is also prohibited to swap the stocks or barrels of different CZ models such as taking the stock from a Varmint and putting it on a Trainer. If one has damaged his/her original CZ stock or barrel, they may order the same exact factory replacement part for their specific model. There are other BR games on RFC for dramatically altered rifles. We are trying to encourage competition with unmodified or minimally modified scoped CZ sporters. As to custom stock bedding performed on a factory stock, no compound-bedding allowed, pillared or non, and plain pillar bedding is prohibited as well.

Target is the USBR Target (The Green Monster)

22 long rifle

Fired from a benchrest using separate front and rear support and a bi-pod is fine if the shooter prefers. Gun vices and one piece rests are not allowed.

Option 1: Distance to target is 25 yards, all guidelines above apply.
Option 2: Distance to target is 50 yards, all guidelines above apply except scope magnification is unlimited.

Time limit - 1 hour for unlimited sighters and the 25 rounds for score

You can shoot on an indoor range if it is your only option, but please report that fact in your post.

You can post multiple targets if each is fired with a different CZ. For example, a shooter could post one with his/her CZ Varmint and another with his/her CZ American and a third with a scoped Ultra Lux. You may shoot up to FOUR targets with EACH rifle AT EACH DISTANCE and post the highest score fired with each one. Post up any target you shoot if you choose so we can all praise you for your perseverance and improvements. Just don't forget to go back and mark only your best as "Official Entry" before the end of the month.

Post a pic of your target (required) and the equipment you used (recommended) in this thread by November 30, 2024.

Honor system, and we couldn't ask for a more honorable bunch.

Wind flags are fine.

Use this format to post your score(s)

How to score:

A scoring board is helpful, as is a scoring plug (or gauge). An internet search on scoring gauge should reveal multiple sources.

TARGETS?
Good question!

Shooting Targets - American Target Company
(third row down on the right)

For anyone from Canada who would like to join in, I suggest you try an internet search (USBR Target Canada seems to work). The sources of GMs up north seem to be variable.

You can also find practice targets on this forum. Look under "Little Monster" at:

I am probably done for the season. Temps are starting to drop off and I had 6 rounds that did not ignite on first primer strike this morning. I hope it was temperature related as it has never happened with this ammo (Lapua long range).

Thanks to all who made this happen! I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Shot a couple of green monster targets last Friday but spent more time shooting ARA targets with my Win 52 ad 52C. The latter is a recent purchase from CMP. I know this will be sacrilege to many of you but I sold two CZ's recently (457 Lux and American). The classified section functioned smoothly and the purchasers were first rate, one even shoots regularly here. My only concern is that one purchaser said he named his new rifle "Charlie". Reaching 80 has caused me to rethink a few things. For years I collected Lionel trains and then antique clocks. Both were fun hobbies but neither is in demand now. I don't think 22 rifles be viewed the same way but I do not want to leave a bunch of stuff that my wife and son have to deal with. So, my present guidelines are a rifle must go to make room for any new purchase. I have sold four and purchased one so I am still shopping. I still have the MTR, Varmint, At-One, and 527 (223). Please excuse this rambling, non-CZ stuff but it has been relaxing putting my thoughts on paper(?) or in cyberspace(doesn't sound right).

I really enjoy refurbishing vintage items. That explains the clocks. The CMP 52C cleaned up well. It came with Redfield Olympic sights but I mounted a scope. My best ARA score was 2150 with it.

Happy Thaksgiving to you all....

Got out yesterday and scored 239. Hoping to get out on Saturday to improve on yesterdays outing.

Quick ? to everyone:
Do you notice that it's difficult to get a consistent cheek weld and sight picture when wearing noise canceling headphones? I get super eye fatigue with headphones too. Just cant get lined up correctly.

Yesterday, I had to deal with several very loud shooters and was wearing headphones. Just coldn't get settled in. And I've found this whenever I'm wearing headphones and my scores certainly suffer. Would appreciate any comments.

Gotta go:
Time to make Pumpkin Pie and Rotisserie Duck.

Cheers,
Peter

Peter, I have trouble getting comfortable if I have to wear headphones. If I'm at the club and there are big boomers shooting, I do wear them over plugs but I don't like it. If there are no cannons being shot, I just wear plugs.

I don't think I'll get out again before month's end. I hope everyone is enjoying a great Thanksgiving with family and friends. I just got done eating round 1 and I'm completely miserable at the moment. I'm never eating again....at least not until after while. 😉

Yeah!
No doubt. When the Big Boomers are going, gotta wear the muffs and that's just a bummer all around. Just wishing there were some super amazing plugs that would take carre of my special needs.

Hopeing everyone has recovered from their feasting.

Cheers,
Peter

Noi big boomers on this outing!

And, I managed to squeek out a couple more points.

Hope you all have a great off season. See you in the Spring.
Cheers,
Peter

EDITED - I missed Charlie's target.

Well as you might imagine, we had fewer targets posted this month what with winter coming in and the holiday. Good on Ralph, who posted a 50 yard target. Here are the results.

Image

Details are below. As usual, let me know of any errors or omissions.

I want to thank everyone who participated in the matches this year. It has been a pleasure to serve as your collator or poster or typist, or whatever it is that I do. I didn't get to the range as much as I would have liked what with recovering from the fall last year and the house move, remodel, and selling the old one. I hope to do better next year.

Have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, or ever how you mark the winter holiday, and a safe, happy, and healthy new year.
