Does anyone shot the 40 XB or the 52 Winchester anymore?

I have a 52C and its an amazing gun. Truely surprised what it can do. This would be a great choice for shooting off a bench rest or position if you can handle the weight. I can tell you for certain 52C remain popular and well respected. The D is supposed to be a tad improved so even better has to be a good thing. There is a comparable Anschutz 54 if you are open to German quality. And if you willing to pay up they still offer the 54 guns new. The two models you mentioned are a distant memory. That has to say something good about Anschutz.

I never shot a 40x, so others can speak to that.

Any used rimfire may have cleaning rod muzzle wear or a cut and recrowned barrel. They may also be all leaded up and need a good cleaning. I think the odds on getting burned are greater with a new gun but bottom line, you never know.

I am trying to remember but I think the 52, 52A and 52B may sometimes develope a small crack at the safety. You do not need a safety on this type of gun and the crack does not hurt the function of the gun. BUT!! You need to look becasue it does reduce the value. All 52 carry a collector value if they remain original, WITH NO EXTRA HOLES drilled and no crack.

A literate person can do an afternoon reading or couple sessions and get up to speed on the 52. A gun club is great place to make friends and get the word out that you are looking. Gun Broker is the worse place. Good for the buyer working long hours and busy at home. Old guy. back in the game, meet more old guys getting out of the game.

YES! I shoot a 40XB and 52d in my 3 position club. My 40x has a 6.5-20 Leupold and the 52 wears a Redfield 6400-16x scope. I regularly clean the 50’ USA-50 targets in prone, high 80s in kneeling, and low 80s in offhand. I’ve been the leagues and my clubs most improved shooter the last 3 years in a row.
