Greetings,
I'm Gary and my current home is in NC (though I've spent a good deal of time in the DC area and in SC over the past three years). Still employed. But, I am considering retiring within the next year.
I came this community because I inherited a Winchester Model 1890 from my dad (who passed earlier this year away at the age of 98). It's the 3rd model of the Model 90's and from the Serial Number, I've determined that it was manufactured in 1931. It's chambered for .22 LR. This Model 90 also has a Lyman 22 Junior scope mounted on it. The rifle belonged to my grandfather. My dad inherited it from his dad in 1953.
We used it primarily for squirrel hunting on our property (my dad owned a dairy farm in Fairfax County, VA that he inherited from his dad and it had a great area at the back of the property for squirrel hunting. My dad also hunted squirrels on the property where we lived after selling the farm). We also used it for target shooting and killing groundhogs.
The last time I fired this rifle was more than five decades ago sighting-in the scope. I think the last time my dad fired it was sometime between 2007 and 2010 (hunting squirrels) using .22 LR hollow points. He told me that he had cleaned it before putting it up. I regret not periodically checking on it after he hid the rifle. It's evident that he didn't check on it. After at least 15 years, it had some rust. I am currently working on cleaning it (and several other guns that he left). Everything seems to be in good working order, though. I do have pictures as I've made progress.
Anyway, it brings back memories and means something to me as an heirloom.
